"That'll be $7.12, sir."
He got the money from his pocket and realized he had only brought a five dollar bill in with him. "Crap," he said to himself. "Sorry, cancel that order." I walked up to him with my gift card in hand.
"Here, use this," I said offering my card to him. He just ignored me and began walking to a table in the corner of the cafe. I looked at the lady behind the counter.
"Give me whatever he just ordered," I said with a smile on my face and handing her the gift card. Within three minutes, I noticed he had gotten up and started walking out of the cafe. I waited anxiously until the lady handed me the coffee and I ran out the door.
"Hey!" I yelled after him. He only looked back at me and continued walking. When I finally caught up with him, I started walking the same pace he was. He looked over at me and I handed him the mug that was still warm. He looked really touched.
"Thank you," he said with a small smile on his face.
I smiled back. "No problem! It's my pleasure to help." He took a second to take a drink and looked back to me. "No one's ever done something that nice for me before."
"Well, I'd say that that needed to change."
"So then, you do this normally?" he asked.
"Not that often. You just really looked like you needed it is all." And that was true. He looked awfully tired. He had dark circles around his eyes and his hair was a mess.
He nodded. "Yeah, I guess I really did need it. Being in my last year of high school is hard."
"Everyone says that. Last year of high school is super stressful. I guess it's my turn to figure that out for myself next year." I sighed and began walking away, back to the cafe.
He reached his hand to my shoulder and stopped me. "Hey, how come I've never seen you around school before?"
I paused and bit my lip before answering. "I, uh, well yeah, probably, but I just don't normally stay around for people to see me that often. I like keeping to myself most times."
(Hey, you guys are lucky today. THREE UPDATES!? OH MY GOD, you must be thinking. I know, I know, I'm fabulous and y'all love me. So yeah, this is one of my awkward dating scenarios YAY. This one is one of my bad ones, though. Oh well. Peace out, nerds.)
