Prologue
"Happy 16th birthday Hazel!" My mother screamed from downstairs. I looked at myself in the mirror. I felt like a disgrace to the werewolf kind. I wasn't skinny like the other girls. I didn't have perfect vision or a clear complexion. But I was me.
I grabbed my bag and went down stairs. My brother was waiting by the door. "You ready?" I nodded and we went to school. I was actually very nervous. On your 16th birthday you find your mate. You also shift for your first time. But my shift was early. I shifted two days ago and it was horrible. I plan on never doing it again.
My brother pulled into our usual parking spot. The werewolves always park together ate together actually they did everything together. But I didn't hang out with them. Actually I didn't hang out with anyone. I was kind of a loner.
Walking into school I bumped into something hard. I looked up and met his eyes. Fuck!
'MATE, MATE, MATE, MATE.'
'SHUT UP I YELLED BACK HE IS NOT OUR MATE.'
He looked down and winked then opened his mouth. "I, Alex Embry, Reject you Hazel Mathews, as my mate."
"Good." I ran out of the school. I didn't care where I was going I just had to leave.
