Chapter 3

Hazels POV

Running up to the door my fist pounded harder than any before. "Come on!" I yelled, sighing she didn't come to the door, instantly I pulled out my phone trying to call her. "Come on Mariah, will you please answer me." Hanging up I tapped my phone against my palm, debating my options.

It was the first time in a long time Mariah hadn't been at school. Unlike me, Mariah had never shifted, what if it was happening now, what if I was missing it. Spinning around I looked for her bike.

Walking back into my house I sighed, my mother peeked her head out of the door way to the living room. "Hazel." She gestured for me to come to her, the look on her face worrysum. Walking into the room two men sat on the couch, they wore the seal of the king on their chest. "These are a few guards, they want to know some things about Mariah."

"Is she alright?" I asked my heart pumping faster.

One of the men cleared their throat. "She's dead. We would like to know how well you knew her, if you could help us with a few things."

"She-?" My voice cut out, I was crying, I wanted to lunge, lunge at the men who had no business being involved in my best friends death. "Bu-" Anger flooded through my veins but the tears were still coming.

Turning around again I ran for her house. Running through my front door I stopped, swinging side to side on the tree, her body moving from the fall. "NO!" I screamed.

My black hair flew around me as I sat straight up in my bed. Stray strands attacking the sweat droplets falling down my face. My bedroom door cracked open, Dylan peeked his head in. "Its not real." He whispers moving in the bed with me, his hand tracing my spine. "Breathe." Dylan breathes as he says the word, the air escaping his lips effortlessly, but for some reason there is a brick on my chest.

"It always feels so real." Its always like I'm back, that day haunting me even in my day dreams. Laying back down Dylan wrapped his arms around me, his free hand rubbing my hair out of my face.

Dylan let the hum slip from his lips. A song his mother used to sing to him when he had night mares, Dylan took it upon himself to always sing me back to bed. Closing my eyes I let the music run through my body.

A growl woke me up with a jump. Alex stood in the door way, his fists clenched at his side. "Alex?" I pushed myself up, Dylans arm holding me down. Alex stalked over pulling the sleeping Dylan from my bed. "Alex!" I screamed jumping put of bed. Dylan jumped awake his body ready to attack. "Stop!" I placed my body between them.

"You're mine Hazel!" Alex pushed me to the side, Dylan adjusted his stance. His mouth trying to reason with him.

"Alex stop!" His fist flung into Dylans nose. Grabbing onto Alex's arm I pulled it back with all my strength. "We weren't doing anything Alex, stop come on." I pulled again his eyes never leaving Dylans bleeding face.

Jake walked into the room, his eyes finding Dylan. "What the hell?" He ran to Dylans side. "Alex wtf."

"Come on Alex." I pulled his arm. Spinning around towards me he grabbed my waist, lifting me over his shoulder. "Put me down Alex." Jake raised his eyebrow as Alex walked with me out of the room.

Slamming his bedroom door shut he put me down. He looked at me, his eyes glaring at my body. "Alex, calm down."

"You are mine Hazel, why can't you just get that through your head. You're mine even if you don't want to be." Gulping he took a step forward. "I've never taken a girl against her will, but Hazel I'm only so patient." His hand reached around my body. Sparks flying through me. Looking up at him my bottom lip rolled between my teeth.

"I'm going to go." I whispered moving past him.

The sun was hot on my skin, my body laid flesh in the sun. Dylan and Jake are at the hospital, Dylans nose taking its time to heal. "Hazel!" My mother yelled at me from the back door. "White or Blue?" The fourth of July party we had every year was this weekend. It was my first one back and my mom wanted my input on everything. This time it was cake icing.

"Blue." I yelled back. I could hear the sliding door shut, leaving me to finally relax by the water for once by myself. Listening to the sound of the wind blowing against the trees I sucked in a harsh breathe. It was only a matter of time till the rest of the pack came back from training. The younger kids were still in obedience school. Every day till two they learned to control their wolves.

"Hazel." The voice is in my ear, haunting me. Sitting right up I pulled the sunglasses from my eyes. No one was around, but the voice, I knew it. Standing up I slid my shorts back onto my body.

Opening the gate I slid into the grassy area. The rocks sitting in a pattern making it easy to navigate through. Finding the spot I sat on my knees, 'Here Lies Mariah Connan.' 1995-2010. Touching the angel imprinted into the stone I closed my eyes.

"I miss you. So much. I know If you were here you would be telling me. 'Just kick him in the balls.' I know thats what you would be saying. You and Dylan would get along great. He's alot like you. I know, if there is a valhala you were watching me from there. You watched me that day. Its been four years since you died. I just-"

"Hazel?" Wiping the tears from my eyes I turned towards the voice. Mariahs brother stood there, a smile on his lips. "I heard you were back in town, but wow." He whispered, his eyes following my body.

Standing up he embraced me in a hug, my tears landing on his shoulder. "Oh Jack." I cried, his arms wrapped around my body, holding me against him. Jack was like an older brother to me. "I missed you, I was going to come see you and your mom but I just couldn't bring myself to."

"Its okay, she knows your back, she misses you."

"I miss her too, I just don't think I can handle going to your house."

He pulled back from me a nod to his head. "I get it, but its been four years. We're at peace now, you should be too." I was, sort of. Sighing he smiled wrapping an arm around my shoulder. "How about coffee, say tomorrow. Word around town is your single." People are talking about me? As if reading my mind he sighed. "Matt has a very big mouth." running my hands over my face I nodded.

"Yeah tomorrow, you can pick me up."

The house was finally booming, my mother was running around as if her head was about to be cut off. I could hear the boys in the other room. Alex and my father hidden away in his office. The thought of what they were talking about lingered in my mind. Shuttering I walked into the living room.

"Hazel, we-" Jake started his hand going over Dylans knee.

"I already know." I laughed a little. A sigh of relief flooded through them. Sitting in the free spot I watched them going back to the way they were before I walked in. Closing my eyes, I listened to the laughter.
