Finn snorts in his sleep as he rolls around on the mattress. I choke back giggles. I stand up, yawn, and go to look out the window of my room. I see raindrops streaking my windows. I sigh, and crawl back into my bed, letting Finn's snores and the rains familiar pitter patter lull me back to sleep. I wake up about an hour later with Finn sitting next to me on my bed. He's holding his phone, and looking down at it anxiously.
"My mom.." he replies nervously. He must've seen me looking at him.
"Oh. What's she saying?" I ask, trying to read over his shoulder without being rude.
"She asked where I am." he points at his phone screen and I nod.
"You're not in trouble right?" I ask.
"Nah. My moms nice like that." he chuckles slightly.
"Well I hope my mom's not mad either." I sigh.
We stand up and walk downstairs to see my mom eating a muffin.
"Hey, mom. Can I talk to you?" I smile at my mom, who's enjoying her muffin thoroughly. She nods, carrying her muffin out of the room, and suggesting I follow her. I glance at Finn, and follow my mom.
"I know you're wondering why Finn's here still. Well, he slept over last night on the spare mattress. We went swimming in the lake down the road and it was late when we got back, so we just figured he'd stay over. And his mom is fine, she's not mad." I explain as my mom takes another bite of her muffin. She nods and kisses me on the head.
"Well, I guess it's fine with me. We can bring him home after lunch." She smiles at me and eats the final bite of her muffin, and frowns when she sees her empty hand. We walk back into the kitchen awkwardly. I hand Finn a muffin, and I grab one for myself as we walk onto the deck. I let the rain drip on me. Finn laughs as he realizes I'm sitting in the middle of a rainstorm.
"We're bringing you home at like 1, I guess." I begin. Finn nods.
"Let's go to the park!" He exclaims, a twinkle of mischief in his big brown eyes.
"What? It's raining!" I try to resist, but Finn persuades me.
We go inside and grab raincoats ( I wear mine, Finn wears my moms.) and run out in the rain holding hands and screaming. We run to the park, and its torrential down pouring when we get to the swing set. We just sit it the rain, and laugh. I break the laughter. The guilt of him not knowing is killing me.
"Finn. I don't know if I told you this, but I'm going to tell you again in case you forgot. I have a heart and blood problem, and it's called Endocarditis. It's an infection that messes with my bloodstream, and attaches to weird parts of my heart. Last year I was in and out of the hospital, and this year, I haven't had any problems!" I explain, reaching for his hand.
"Oh wow Mills, your a fighter. I'm glad your happy and healthy now." He laughs, and I smile proudly.
We stand up and walk to the park bench and sit down, our butts getting soaked by the wet bench. I rest my head on his shoulder as he pulls out his phone. He holds it up and aims it at us.
"Selfie time!" I giggle. We make the most ridiculous faces, and in one picture, we just smile.
"That's a keeper!" He yells, pointing at the one of us smiling. I nod giddily. I rest my hand on his knee. We just watch the birds fly around in the rain, and listen to the raindrops hit the tar.

"We should get going soon. It's 12." Finn adds, and we link arms and start back to my house. We decide to go through the city. We walk arm in arm, looking around at all the little shops. He stops at one particular store. It's a small white building with an awning.
"Hold on, my lady. I'll be right back. Stay here." He pats my back and runs inside. 5 minutes later he comes out empty handed. I'm curious, but I don't ask. We're on my street when it happens. He takes my hands, and pulls me to the side of the road, and gets down on one knee.
"Millie Brown, do you, want to go out with me?" He asks, rain running down his face and his eyes looking desperate.
"Yes yes yes yes yes!" I dance around and he opens a smallish white box to reveal a beautiful necklace with a diamond anchor. He clips it on me and I shriek with happiness.
" I love you!" I blurt out.
"I love you more!" He teases and begins to chase me to my house. We run around giggling, my new necklace bouncing around beautifully on my neck.
We slam the door of my house and run into the kitchen.
"Mom! Look!" I show her the necklace and her eyes go wide. She looks at Finn, and he blushes and looks at his toes.
"Well I guess I have a boyfriend now." I squeal and gesture toward Finn and my mom chuckles.
"We have to bring Finn home now sweetie. Meet you guys in the car!" my mom informs us and we walk out to the car. I climb in back with Finn.
"Thanks for staying over. It was fun. And thanks for the beautiful necklace, boyfriend!" I tease.
"Yeah, it looks amazing on you, girlfriend!" He teases back. I laugh and swat his arm away from me playfully. My mom comes and sits in the driver seat and starts the car. I watch the blur of trees and rain out the window, putting my hands on Finn's.
We pull up to his house, and he leans over and kisses my cheek.
"Bye mills. Bye Kelly! Thanks!" He waves, heading for his house. My mom smiles, and drives away. I look back and I swear I see an ambulance behind us, but then I look again, and it's gone.
