Chapter 7: Shadow

Zaezen Dewshield

I walked around my room in the castle, overthinking what would happen if someone found out I'm here.

Please don't find me. I was starting to get dizzy from breathing hard thinking of the worse.

Someone knocked at the door, "Come in." It was Rin. I smiled brightly going over giving him a hug, "Someones happy to see me." He hugged me back.

I was glad i had someone to get my mind off of this, I don't like being left alone here. We separated from our hug.

"Did you miss me Zae." I nodded, "I hate being here, especially alone." He laughed, walking over to the window looking out, "Your safe here, no one knows who you actually are but my brothers."

I sighed, "I guess your right." I went and stood by him looking at the moon, "Its beautiful, just like you." He smiled down at me.

He left after we talked for a while. He told me stories of when his brothers played tricks on him, and of all the trouble they got into playing soldiers when they were kids.

My room was lonely, and cold. I changed into a nice gown that they gave me, it was made of silk. The bed was so soft, I thought I would sink right in it.

Sleep took me in moments. I haven't been in a bed this comfy in my life., but i knew Rin would be back at mid-night to fetch me and his brothers so we could slip out undetected.

I didn't dream, which was good, but i was woken by a creaking, like someone opening the door. I peered over the covers to see if anyone had came in, trying not to make a sound.

Someone was standing there by the open door.

It was a black figure, holding what seemed like a knife.I panicked sitting up reaching over for my sword. The figure shot forward knocking the sword out of my hands.

I tried to roll away, but it grabbed my arm yanking me back. It was a man by its grip, I could tell that, but i couldn't see his face.

I screamed kicking him in the chest, "Let me go!" He didn't budge. I concentrated on my magic, starting to chant, only to be cut off by his hand gagging by mouth.

He had to let go of my arm to gag me, so I started hitting him. He pressed the knife to my throat, having me pinned to the bead frame.

I was helpless, like the night they took my parents. A tear slid down my cheek, Is this how i'll die? No. I wont let it. I started struggling again and he pressed it harder, starting to draw blood.

"Stay still you little runt, I'll make this fast."

The door opened, Rin and his brothers walked in, it was mid-night. Rin saw the mad and yelled, "Let her go!" He ran over grabbing the mans neck, throwing him against the wall, making him drop the dagger.

"You chose the wrong people to mess with man." Tarnas and Wren got some candles going by now, I could see the man now. My eyes widened, my voice was small, "They found me."

The man laughed, "Zaezen you will be taken, it is in the prophesy that the Dewshields will fall."

Rin pulled his fist back to punch him, and as he swung the man turned to black dust, and he hit the wall.

I was shaking, Rin was enraged, Tarnas and Wren were talking glancing over at me. Why me, why now.

Rin came over looking me dead in the eye, "Who was he." I shook, tears running down my cheeks still, I was terrified.

"Zae who was he!" I coiled back at him yelling, he sighed sitting down pulling me to him, "I'm sorry I yelled, I need to know who he is though." I wrapped my arms around him trying not to break down, "The Seekers found me."

"The Seekers are a myth Zae. They don't exist." I pulled away, "Yes they do, they have been trying to find every last Dewshield. Do you know who the Rangers work for, they work for them. You follow their orders, do their dirty work so they don't have to. Don't you see!"

He looked shocked at my sudden outburst. He sighed changing the subject.

"You aren't leaving my side from now on, understand? After tonight we all stay together. We will discuss this later."
