"This party is amazing!" Stevie squealed. I have to admit we went all out, more from guilt than anything else.

We all drank and smoked and snorted whatever, we had a blast! Then all of a sudden a song started to play, it was slow almost. The lights all dimmed, the room was dark except for the middle where Steve danced with one of her friends. I was in the corner sipping some whiskey when Lindsey walked up, "Care to dance?" He offered me his hand. I looked at him, "Really?" "Just as friends." He insisted, "We're just dancing Em c'mon!" I put my drink down and wrapped my hands around Lindsey's neck.

We swayed to the music floating throughout the room, our faces were inches apart. I looked down at our feet and slowly rested my head on Lindsey's chest. I couldn't look into those crystal blue eyes, not now anyways. The song continued to play, I looked over at Stevie dancing with Tom Petty. Her smile was beautiful, she looked so happy.

"Look at her!" I whispered to Lindsey. He turned his head, "We did good this year."
"Yeah." I muttered. My eyes gazed down at our shoes, I didn't want to look him in the eyes. Lindsey's warm fingers rested under my chin as he gently lifted up my face so I could meet his piercing gaze. I blushed a light pink, "What the hell Emily? This is Lindsey here." I thought. I was going to break Stevie's heart and I knew it, I couldn't do that to her.

Of course I never listen to myself, and when Lindsey slowly led me to a dark corner I sure as hell followed. We continued swaying to the song, Stevie's giggle echoed throughout the room.  As Lindsey brushed a piece of hair out of my face, he flashed me a warm smile. I melted at the sight of his sparkling eyes, he pulled me closer to him. My hand was right on his chest, Lindsey's hand cupping my face, and then it happened.

Our lips met in what was first a soft touch and then turned into a passionate kiss, as he pushed me up against the wall.  My hands brushed up against the stubble on his face as I tangled my fingers in his curls. It was pure bliss, better than the last time probably because I wasn't wasted. I was successful, I was performing, and I was with my best friends. I was kissing Lindsey Buckingham, and my life had so much promise. But the high came slowly crashing down in those few minutes.

"What the hell?" Stevie screamed. Lindsey and I pulled apart quickly. Stevie's big brown eyes were filled with pain. "What the fuck is this?"

"Stevie, I'm sorry it didn't mean anything!" Lindsey stuttered. He was trying so hard to fix this mess.

She wasn't having it, "Yes because I make out with all of my friends!" Stevie pointed at me, "How could you?"

"Steph, I'm s-s-sorry." I slurred. I was lying to her again, except this time I was pretending to be drunk. I ruined her birthday enough, I didn't want her to think I was sober and still did it.

"Just forget it!" Stevie stormed out of the room. Leaving us with Tom Petty and the other party guest all just staring at us. I ran out of the room, I didn't want to be there. I fucked up big. I ruined my best friend's birthday party, I kissed the one love of her life. The one she never truly got over, and I kissed him.

"Wait Emily!" I looked behind me and Lindsey was running to catch up with me.

"No!" I yelled, "I don't want to be anywhere near you!" He reached for my arm to stop me from running away. I turned away from him, "Fuck off."

Sure enough when I got home, Stevie was locked in her room. I turned around and walked out of the house. I couldn't stay here but where would I go? I found a phone booth nearby, I dialed Christine's number.

"Christine?" I fumbled with the cord on the phone, waiting for a response.

"Emily? What the fuck happened?" Christine's voice echoed through the phone.

"Can I come over?" I asked her.

"Oh yeah, of course. You have a ride?"

I nodded, "Yeah, I can get a taxi." I hung up the phone and hailed a cab.

I told Christine everything that happened and she ran a hand through her blonde hair, "Damn Em, this is so fucked up."

I played with the straw in my martini,"I know. I don't know what to do."

"Fix it up with Stevie first, then talk to Lindsey about what this all means." Christine straightened her posture in her chair. "You gotta clear all this up, love."

"Yeah, I know." I mumbled. This would be hard,  but its my fault.

The next morning I went back home, I walked in the front doors.
"Steph?" I called, my voice echoed throughout the house. She was sitting in the living room drinking coffee. She looked up at me.

"What?" Her brown eyes pierced through my soul.

"We need to talk." I sat down next to her, running a hand through my hair.

Stevie put her mug down, "Listen I'm sorry, Linds and I have been broken up for a long time. I've moved on and so has he, you can be with him if you want."

I was shocked, "I don't know what we are right now. I haven't talked to him much. I'm sorry about your party."

She smiled, "I ruined that one. Don't worry about it! Its been a rough time lately."

I looked at her, "What happened Stevie?"

Stevie leaned back, "Remember when I was with Don't Henley?" I nodded.
"Well," she continued. "I got pregnant and it was Don's." I couldn't believe it, she never told me at all. "But you know Don Em, and it just couldn't happen. The bands, drugs, I just I couldn't. So I got an abortion."

I didn't know how to answer, I just hugged her. Stevie started to cry, "I w-w-rote Sara about h-h-her,"

I rubbed her back, "Its okay Steph, its okay."

"It was so terrible." She sobbed onto my shoulder.

"I know sweetie. Its okay, its okay, its okay." I whispered as I held her.
