Its been a few days since Robin told me the news and I still haven't talked to Stevie. She was at home I assumed, while I was staying with Tom. I just couldn't bare to see her in so much pain, not yet anyways. I sighed while I walked across the hard wood kitchen floors, my bare feet lightly hitting the floor. Being alone in the house was a regular thing if I didn't feel like going to the studio. I would just wait for Tom to get home, sometimes I wrote but it was hard. Laying on the couch, I rolled over to face the tv before slowly drifting off.

I felt a blanket gently flop over me, stretching I looked over and saw Tom walking into the kitchen.
"Oh you're home." I said quietly.
"And you're awake!" He smiled. I yawned, sitting up, and placing my feet on the floor. "No baby doll, just go back to sleep." Tom insisted, sitting down with a plate on his lap.

"Ooooo, what's that?" I asked, trying to get a good look at what he was eating. "Just a sandwich and chips." my friend laughed. Scooting closer to the end of the couch my eyes got wide, "Is that bologna?"
He nodded, "Haven't you already eaten?"
"Naaah." I blushed when Tom stared at me. "What?" I asked.

He started to stand up, walking over to the kitchen. "What are you doing?" I called after him. "You're getting a sandwich too." He replied, spreading mayonnaise on the bread. "Its almost midnight and you never had dinner Em."
I walked into the kitchen, leaning against the wall. "But you had a busy day recording Tommy, c'mooon." Turning around he handed me the sandwich with a smile, "It wasn't that bad of a day."

After awhile of watching television my eyes started to droop again. Tom nudged me with his elbow, "Whaaat!?!" I groaned trying to lay down again on the couch. "Alright, its time for bed." Tom exclaimed while getting up.

"I'll stay here then, nighty night Tommy."
He scoffed, "Yeah right, I know sleeping on the couch hurts your neck."
Curling up into a ball I yawned, "I'll suffer through then."
Shaking his head with a laugh, Tom picked me up bridal style. "The hell do you think you're doing Petty?" I asked.
"I'm not gonna hear you complaining about your neck all day tomorrow." Tom smirked.
I grinned, "You'll be at the studio, I can complain all I want."
Tom's eyes glistened the same way they always did when he was up to something. "Nope! You're coming with." He plopped me down on the bed and I let out a slight squeal, "But I don't wanna go."

All I wanted to do was sit at home and sleep, when you're asleep you can't feel anything. When you're asleep nothing is going on, nothing is different, and everything is okay. No one is suffering, you're not and your friends aren't. Everything is calm.
Tom took off his jeans to change into a pair of pajama pants. "You need to get out Em, I'll be there. We need your opinion on stuff."

Groaning I pulled the blanket over my head, "How old are you Emily?" I could hear the humor in his voice. "I'm taking off my shirt, I don't wanna get out of bed." I explained with a muffled voice from under the blanket. Tom laughed and I felt something hit the bed. Reaching out from under the blanket I grabbed his old Florida Gators shirt.

Once I put it on I pulled the blanket down, "I don't want to go to the studio." Tom ran a hand through his blonde hair, "C'mon Emmy, please?"
I crossed my arms with a huff, "Fiiine! But I don't want to sleep alone tonight."
Tom smiled, pulling back the covers to get underneath them. "Deal."

"You ready?" Tom asked, grabbing the house keys. Looking around the room one last time I nodded, "Yeah, I got everything." Tom closed the house door behind me, locking the door as I got into the car.

I sighed as Tom turned the key into the ignition, "Cmon, it won't be that bad Em." I scoffed and he shot me a glare. "Tommy I don't want to go."
"You can't just stay home all day, I know this is awful but you gotta get out." Wind blew through his hair as he rolled down the window.

I knew he was right, but I just didn't want to. I felt like shit, I didn't want to deal with all this now. Whenever I turned around there was new shit being thrown into my face. This was the icing on the pile of shit.

Walking through the doors of the recording studio every thing seemed to leave my mind, the only concern was the album. However there was a little worry in the back of mind that I'd run into Steph. Tom draped his arm around my shoulders as we walked into the control room.

"Hey!" The other men cheered when we walked through the door. "Hi." I said shyly. Benmont walked over to me, "Hey Emily." He smiled, giving me a hug.
Mike was sitting on the floor, strumming his guitar.
"We've missed you a lot, Em."
Stan nodded, "We need your opinion on looots of things."
"But!" Ron said with his finger up in the air, "Most of all we've just missed you being around!" I smiled softly, taking a seat on the floor next to Mike. I leaned my head on Ron's legs as he sat on the couch behind us.

Tom smiled, grabbing a cup of coffee. He studied us all together, me and Mike on the floor while the others were on the couch. "Now this! Looks right!" He exclaimed. We all grinned, "Yeah, this feels right." Ben replied. Tom sat by the controls, lighting a cigarette. "We just gotta wait for Jimmy now."

Just as the words left his mouth Jimmy came bustling through the doors, running a hand through his mop of black hair he looked around the room.
"Aye Em is back! I'm sorry about what's going on doll face." He patted me on the head. I smiled, "Thanks Jimbo."
His face scrunched up, "Ya know I hate that." Covering my mouth, I giggled.

Jimmy fixed himself a cup of coffee, taking a sip once he sat down in the other chair by the controls.
"Listen, I don't know if you want to see her but Steves is here today." I looked up at him, "I thought the record was done?"
Nodding his head, he put the mug down. "Some final touches, someone finally dragged her down here to finish."

Stan fiddled with his drum sticks, "Maybe you should see her Emily." Quickly I shook my head, "No no no! I don't want to see her, I can't deal with that now." Crossing my arms as everyone stared at me, "And wipe the shocked look off your face."

"Y'all are like sisters Em." Tom said, taking the cigarette out of his mouth. I started to stand up, "Sometimes I just need time to deal with my own fucking problems okay?" I exclaimed. "I have to hide all this shit and deal with everyone else's problems, I have to be there for everyone! No one bothers to try and figure out what's wrong with me!" My voice was starting to get louder.

Tom stood up, "Emily, calm down its okay."
"No!" I yelled at him, "Its not! I'm tired of this! I'm tired of everything! Stevie hasn't bothered to see me!She hasn't asked about me or tried to talk to me! I'm dealing with my own shit! I'm fucking over this!" I stormed out the door, slamming it behind me.
