Chapter 04 | Bumping Into You

"Slow your roll," I giggled at my forceful best friend.

I sipped on my frappuccino making Sadie irritated. Sadie grabbed the drink out of my hands forcing me to talk. "Spill all the details right now, Jade Clarke," she demanded. I rolled my eyes opening my hand to reach for my drink.

"Nuh-uh, talk first," she objected, holding the drink further away.

She brought me here to get Starbucks and now she's taking it away? Cruel.

"It's no big deal. He's just having some trouble in Trigonometry and Mr. Riley asked me to tutor him," I explained. It was fairly simple, I share some of my knowledge with him and he can play football.

"Can I please have my drink now?" I gave Sadie the face she always had trouble saying no to.

Sadie held the drink out to me, waiting for it to be taken. I knew she could never resist the pity look. "So why is he calling you baby cakes?" she nagged for more information.

"I honestly don't know, but it was really fun bruising his ego last night. Did you know that he's so conceited?" I asked laughing, recalling Raysen saying how the ladies thought he was charming and irresistible. That was something I've never heard come out of a guy before. I've only read about someone being that self-centered in books.

The door behind us jingled as we kept laughing. "Who's conceited?" a deep familiar voice alarmed me. My face turned white as I realized who's voice that belonged to.

My body turned around facing him for the second time this morning. "Hi, Raysen," I nervously chuckled hoping I could get out of this one. "Hi, baby cakes," he said imitating me. "So, who's conceited?" he repeated not dropping the topic.

I kept my mouth shut not saying a word. He looked over to Sadie hoping she would give him the answers I wouldn't. My eyes widened as Raysen looked at Sadie. "No," I mouthed to Sadie hoping she would see my gestures.

Sadie wasn't a great liar and always gave in when times got tough. "She said you were conceited," she muttered fastly. I brought my hand up to my face and facepalmed myself. Sadie was the worst liar in the history of lying.

"Is that true, baby cakes?" Raysen asked, now facing me.

"Bye!" I exclaimed pulling Sadie into her own car.

"Drive," I demanded wanting to get as far away from Raysen as possible. Sadie followed my instructions and pulled out of the parking lot. I glimpsed through the rearview mirror to look back at him standing in front of the door. He waved goodbye to the baby blue bug car as we drove off.

"Did you tell Shane yet?" Sadie asked knowing about Shane's and Raysen's hatred towards each other.

"No," I mumbled, feeling the guilt come upon my shoulders. I didn't see how Shane could hate him so much. Other than the fact that he's an egotistical airhead that's extremely perverted, he seemed nice.

"Jade," Sadie warned, knowing how mad Shane would be when he found out I was tutoring him. I felt bad of course, but what was I supposed to do? Just let Raysen suffer?

It would probably be Shane's dream for Raysen to be on academic probation, but in my book that didn't seem fair. What if he were failing? I know for a fact that he would want someone to tutor him.

"I know, I'll tell him. Just not yet, when the time is right, then I'll just casually let it slip," I reassured. How was I going to tell Shane? He easily gets mad at the topic of Raysen. If he found out that I have had more than one interaction with him, he would never let me hear the end of it.

"He's hot don't you think?" Sadie changed the topic. I choked on my drink and let out a roaring laughter. Sadie looked at me in confusion as to why I was laughing.

"You think-" I stopped to laugh, "-Raysen's hot?" I barely made it through her sentence.

"What? You don't think so?" she questioned.

"Not even a little bit," I admitted. Sadie thought I was crazy to think the captain of the football team wasn't good looking. She thought I was abnormal to think he wasn't attractive, to her and all the others, it came on as a sixth sense.

"You're lying."

"Trust me, I'm not," I tried to make my point clear.

"Whatever, you just want all of him to yourself," she huffed.

"Definitely," I sarcastically replied.

Sadie turned into the school parking lot and parked her little car in the tight parking slot under the tree for shade. "Well, would you look at that, look who took my parking," a squeaky high pitched voice complained as we stepped out of the car.

"You snooze, you lose," I snarked at her.

"Lacey, what an unpleasant surprise," Sadie sarcastically commented.

"Hello, fake one and fake two," Lacey replied to our hilarious comebacks.

"Lacey, honey, if you think we're fake, maybe you should do a self-evaluation first," I responded. Sadie laughed at my comeback. At times like these, Sadie was actually happy to not be alone. She could never stand up to Lacey like that.

I rushed to my locker to run early on time, unlike the past few days. Standing at my locker was my twin brother waiting for me.

That's a first.

"Jade," he breathed out bringing her into her a tight hug. "I'm so sorry, I didn't know what I was saying," he buried his head into my shoulder. I looked over at Sadie who was smiling like an idiot at the twin moment we were having.

"Shane, we need to talk," I notified him once he let go of me. I was going to tell him about my tutoring session with Raysen. He deserved to know the truth before things get too far and it's too late to tell him.

"I know, I broke my promise. I won't bring him up again, I swear," he said thinking I was talking about the Logan incident still.

I decided to wait until later to tell him, putting it off won't hurt anybody. Right?

"It's okay, I forgive you," I said resting my head against his chest. I missed moments like this, it reminded me of how close we used to be when we were little. We had a brief sibling moment before getting interrupted by the school bell.

"I'm hanging out with some friends tonight, don't wait up."

A/N: Sorry, guys. I know it's a short chapter, but I didn't want to start writing fluff and it took away from the main point of the chapter. The next chapter will be better, I promise! How did you like this chapter? I'd love to hear your feedback! And sorry for the late update, the updates will still be on Fridays, but I had some things going on and I just got really stressed out and overthought one too many things. So, for my apologies, I'm updating chapter 5 right now as well! Enjoy!
