Chapter 17 | You Need To Tell Me
The drive to Hazel Park wasn't that long, I used to go there every day with Shane when we were little. I knew my way there in a heartbeat.
Once I parked my car, I went out to go find Raysen. What could he need from me this early in the morning?
I suddenly spotted him sitting on the bench right next to the swing sets. His head was hung low and his elbows rested on his knees. He looked truly defeated.
My pace picked up to get to him quicker. His picked his head up to look at me coming towards him, but then dropped it once more.
"Raysen? What's wrong?" I asked, sitting next to him.
The pitch black of the night made it hard for me to see his face.
"Jade," he started. "It hurts."
"What? What hurts?"
I turned the flashlight on my phone to get a better look at him. The sight was terrifying. He had a black eye and bruises forming all over his arms.
"Oh my gosh," I exclaimed. "What happened?"
"I- I can't say."
I sighed heavily. "You said you were going to play Madden, not get in a fight!"
"I wasn't in a fight," he muttered.
"What?" I questioned, not hearing him.
"Nothing," he sighed.
"Come on, I have a first aid kit in my car. Can you stand up?"
He nodded trying to stand up. Once he stood up he fell back down to the bench.
"Are you okay?" I asked, concerned.
What had happened?
"I just got a little dizzy for a second." He answered.
I grabbed his arm and helped him stand up again. He let his weight rest on me as I helped him to my car.
"Sit right here," I guided him to the passenger seat.
He plopped himself down on the chair and rested his head back on the headrest.
I made my way over to the driver's seat and took out the first aid kit from the compartment.
"Look at me," I instructed.
I hissed at the sight, it looked very painful, and all I could feel was sorrow for the boy.
I gave him an instant ice pack to help soothe his black eye.
"Jade, I don't feel too well," he groaned.
He looked like he was going to throw up. This wasn't good. Not in my car.
"Open the door!" I exclaimed.
He did as I said and felt better immediately after.
"Raysen, I have to take you to the hospital, I think you have a concussion."
"No! No hospitals, please," he begged.
"I have to, you don't look well," l explained.
He sighed and let his head down. "Stay awake," I instructed him. "Tell me a story."
"Why?" He grunted.
"Just tell me any story."
The truth was, I was trying to keep him conscious. I read in a book that if a person falls asleep while having a concussion, they could end up in a coma. That's the last thing I would want Raysen to be in.
