Chapter 23 | Family Bonding

"Twins, get down here!" My mom yelled from the living room.

Shane and I both walked out of our rooms at the same time. My crazy bed head was still tangled up, looking like a bird set up camp in my hair.

"What is she calling us down for?" I asked, trying to run my fingers through my tangled hair.

My eyes were still heavy from the lack of sleep I got last night, replaying what Shane kept saying Raysen's intentions could be. I shook my head at the thought. It wasn't good to start off the morning with negative thoughts.

"I'm not sure, but it sounds urgent," Shane yawned.

We reached the living room only to find board games on the coffee table. Shane and I looked at each other and groaned. It couldn't possibly be...

"Family game night!" Mom cheered, looking at the multiple games out on the table.

Unbelievable. We woke up early just to know we would have a family bonding later tonight?

Shane grunted. "I'm going back to sleep."

"I second that," I agreed, ready to go back to my comfy bed.

"Not so fast, twins," our Dad chuckled.

Mom cut in, "This isn't just any family game night, we want Jade to bring the boy she's been seeing to join us."

The news woke and Shane and me up. They wanted me to bring Raysen over for family game night? Are they joking?

I was at a loss for words.

"You're joking right?" Shane interrupted.

"Nope, we want to see the boy who our little girl has been spending so much time with," Dad answered back.

My mouth chose not to answer that either. I mean they had to be joking, right? Was this some kind of prank on me and Shane that they thought would be funny?

"You can see him play across the field on game days! Is that not enough?" Shane spoke again.

"We want to get to know him, son," Dad commented.

"Why would you do that to me? You know I'm not the fondest person of that guy," he admitted.

They both sighed. "Family game night is going to happen, and you are going to be nice to our guest. Understood?"

Shane nodded his head, then stormed back into his room.

I was still standing in the same place, for God knows how long.

"Honey, go call the boy and ask him if he's free tonight," Mom insisted.

"Alright," my hoarse voice answered her.

Before I decided to call Raysen, I went to go do my morning routine. A part of me was excited to spend more time with him, but also, scared of what my family would think. I already knew the perspective Shane has on him, what about my parents?

I ran water over my face one more time, then patted it dry with a towel.

Here goes nothing.

I picked up my phone and dialed his number carefully. One ring passed, then two, then...

"Hello?" a deep husky voice on the other side answered.

"Raysen?" I stammered.

"Tutor girl, good morning. What's with the early call? Couldn't get enough of me?" he joked.
