Chapter 12 | Shopping Date

It's been a week since I tutored Raysen at the library. I still haven't told Shane about our tutoring sessions yet. Especially, not about the part in the library. He would definitely beat Raysen to death.

Shane was really surprised when he came home for dinner that night. He couldn't believe that our parents were back for good. He was getting along quite well with Dad, talking about how he's doing in football. Me on the other hand, I haven't been talking as much.

I know I've said I wanted to get closer to her, but I don't know how to start. I can't just begin talking to her about boys or Senior prom or anything like that. She probably doesn't even know my favorite color.

"Knock knock," Shane's voice called from outside my bedroom door.

"Come in," I shouted.

"Mom said she wants to talk to you downstairs," he informed.

"Okay, tell her I'm coming in a minute," I answered.

"Mom! She said she's coming in a minute!" he shouted at the top of his lungs.

I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "You didn't specify how I should tell her."

"Whatever, get out of my room," I chuckled.

I changed out of my sweats and put on a floral skirt with a black halter top. It made me look girly and not like the regular "nerd" I was. The boys at the library really got to me and made me decide to change my wardrobe to make me less nerd like.

Once I was done changing, I finally met my mom downstairs. "You wanted to talk to me?"

"Yes, I wanted to ask if you were busy today," she smiled lovingly at me.

"Yeah, I have nothing planned today, why?"

"I wanted to go shopping with you," she explained.

This was a first. She wants to spend time with me? Actually quality time? Maybe this could be the relationship with her I've always wanted.

"Yeah, that sounds great. Let me get my purse," I answered, excited.

My feet ran to my room and grabbed my purse. I've never been so excited for something like this in my life. We were going on a mother-daughter shopping date!

When I got back downstairs, she was already waiting for me by the door. "Are you ready to go?" she asked.

I nodded my head at her and put on my strappy sandals. She unlocked the car door for me to get inside. I couldn't believe this was finally happening, it was finally a dream come true!

"So where are we going?" I asked.

"Princegate Plaza," she answered.

"I haven't been there in forever," I admitted.

The last time I was there was months ago. I heard they opened a new pizza place there. Maybe we could check it out.

"Really?"

"Yeah, maybe we can check out the new pizza joint they have, I heard it was good. That's if you want to."

I didn't want to get too excited for something that might not happen. Within my life, if there's one thing I've learned, it was not to get my hopes up.

"Of course we can! I really want to take you to this place right before, though. Is that alright?"

I nodded my head and smiled out the window. The buildings got larger as we drove closer to Princegate. They expanded the parking lot from the last time I had been here. Also, I caught a glimpse of the new west wing as well. That's where the new pizza joint was located.

My stomach grumbled softly. I hadn't eaten anything since dinner last night. My fingers searched through my bag for a piece of candy that would fulfill my hunger for now. At the bottom of my purse, I found a stick of gum that I had put in there yesterday. I guess this will have to do for now.

"We're here!" my mom exclaimed.

"So where do you want to go first?" I asked.

I didn't just want to drag her into a random store I wanted to go into. I wanted to make sure we were on the same page so there wasn't any awkwardness. It shouldn't be awkward considering she's my mother, but I don't know her inside and out so asking would have to suffice.

"We can go anywhere you want, honey."

"Okay, let's go to Forever 21 first then," I informed her.

"Sounds good."

The shopping mall looked bigger than ever. All the store's lights filled up the store's mall and made it look magical. I knew my way around to the mall, at least to get to Forever 21. I spent most of my money on clothes there.

Mom and I walked into the store and looked around for a little while. There was a white strappy dress hanging on the sales rack. I walked over to the dress and picked it up. The detailing on the dress was intricate and delicate which made me love it even more.

"I'm going to try this on," I told my mom.

"Okay, I'll be out here."

The dress fit my body perfectly. It wasn't too fancy or casual either, it was perfect. I stepped out of the dressing room to meet my mom again.

"Are you going to get it?" she asked.

"Yeah, it fits nicely," I answered.

"Okay, here, let me pay for it," she insisted, trying to grab the hanger out of my hand.

"No, it's okay, I can pay for it," I argued.

"No, I insist."

Before I knew it, the dress was yanked out of my hand and brought to the counter with my mom. I smiled at her from afar, this day was going perfectly.

"Where did you want to take me before I eat?" I asked, walking out of the store.

"Oh, I almost forgot about that. It's this way," she said, leading the way to the new west wing.

The new wing was incredible. The ceilings were higher and there were definitely more places to shop. I could see the new pizza place at the end of the hall, not too packed for lunch time yet.

"The store is right here," she addressed, walking into a cute little shop.

The place was called Writing Lovers. It had many different cute journals stacked on the walls. Pens and other writing utensils were placed it little glass jars. The store was just a cute little place for writing.

"I used to love writing in journals when I was in high school," she sighed, "-it was like my getaway at life, so I wanted to bring you here to buy you one as well."

"That's a great idea! I've never written down anything like that before," I admitted.

I wasn't one to write down my feeling on a piece of paper. It was more of something I kept to myself. I didn't like sharing my emotions with people, it always made me look weak.

"You can embellish your name on any journal you like too, so pick anyone you want," she offered.

I looked around the store for a little while, trying to find the perfect journal. I finally found the prettiest journal I have stumbled across. The color was light pink and in gold lettering on the front, it read "Sweet Nothings".

"I want this one," I exclaimed.

My mom turned her shoulder and looked at the journal I was holding. "Oh, that's really pretty. Do you want your name on it?" she asked?

"No, it's alright."

"Okay, we'll take it," she informed the lady at the counter.

My mom brought out her wallet and paid for the journal. I couldn't wait until I got home to write in it. She said it was her escape for her, so maybe this will be my escape as well.
