Rose’s POV
I ran through the trees, not really knowing (or caring) where I was going. I wasn’t even paying attention to what was going on around me. All I could think about was john and what he had said.
If he really loved me as much as he said he did, then why did he leave?
I shook my head. I couldn’t believe all this could happen in one day. First, I meet Luke. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about him. I felt like I’ve seen him before today, like I used to know him. But I have no idea where I would have seen him.
Second, John tells me about vampires, shifters, and werewolves. Okay, I’m smart enough to realize I was a shifter. But I couldn’t tell what animal I was. I glanced down, noticing the black fur covering my front legs, and while I was running, I couldn’t see any other part of me. Guess I’ll just find out later…
Third, there was the little confrontation at Chili’s. I slowed myself down as the scene played out in my mind again. This time when I thought about William, I recognized him
William Kale was the Alpha of one of the strongest packs in America. He was born in New Zealand. Oldest of 3. The only werewolf in the family apart from his father.
I could tell you everything about him. I don’t know how, and it completely scared me, but I just knew. But knowing a lot about William meant I knew about his family, which led to me knowing all about Luke. That had helped me with my decision about acting on the pull, or going against it…
I was torn out of my thoughts by hearing a twig snap in front of me. I skidded to a stop, and was instantly surrounded by 4 wolves. They towered over me, and I had no hope of escaping.
I looked around at them, seeing hatred in their eyes. I looked up at the one in front of me, and I heard a voice shout in my head. *Stand down, men. She can’t harm us; she’s alone. And who told the alpha? He’s on his way now.*
I looked at the ground, not knowing what to do. What were they talking about? I looked around again to see they were calming down. This time I started to look at their appearances more. The one to my right wasn’t anything special. He was all brown, just like the one to my left. The only thing different were their eyes. The right one had blue while the left had forest green eyes.
The one behind me was grey with blue eyes, and he didn’t look like he was calming down much. He would eye my every movement, and when I moved my head, he tensed up, ready to pounce at any moment.
The wolf in front of me wasn’t very different. He was black, similar to me, and his body was a little bigger than the others. His eyes were a deep blue, and as I looked at him, I was reminded of John. I don’t know how, but I couldn’t stop his image from popping into my head.
I looked back, between the wolves, and I was about to bolt. I needed to speak to him but most importantly, I needed to get away from these wolves. But I froze as a mouthwatering smell filled the air.
I turned to see a huge wolf jump into the clearing. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He had pure white fur, with a black design on the center of his back. My eyes met his, and he froze. His eyes were beautiful. They were a light blue, almost like Luke’s…
I stopped, realizing that was exactly who was in front of me. He was the alpha. I heard his gentle voice in my head. *Rose?*
I was about to nod, when I head another voice. *It can’t be her. She’s human. This is a shifter. Man, I think you’re losing it. You need to get her off your mind. It’s seriously creeping me out.*
I could tell he was just joking around, but the wolf in front of me looked over at the green-eyed wolf, growling. *Daniel, this has to be her. I would recognize my mate anywhere.* Once again, what was a mate?
Daniel shook his big wolf head, and Luke ran behind a tree. After a minute he came back, back in his human form. And he was only wearing jeans, which showed off his 6 pack. It took all my will power to keep my eyes on his face. He stood next to Daniel, crossing his arms over his perfectly- toned chest.
“Change forms.” His voice rang with authority, and I couldn’t help but listen. In a matter of seconds, I was back in my human form, fully clothed, with a dull headache.
Luke smiled, looking back at Daniel. *Told you so.*
Quietly, I heard Daniel reply. *Doesn’t mean you’re not crazy.*
I laughed, and Luke turned back to me with a raised eyebrow. “What’s so funny?”
I glanced at Daniel, but quickly dropped my gaze. “I thought his comment was funny.”
I heard someone walking closer, and Luke tilted my head up. I moved back slightly, feeling sparks where he touched me. But they weren’t bad. They were sparks of pleasure. I could feel the blood rushing to my face, and Luke laughed. But it was low and short.
“Rose, what comment? No one ever said anything.” I looked up quickly, shaking my head. Were they trying to make me sound crazy?
“You told Daniel ‘I told you so’, and Daniel said you were still crazy.” I replied quietly.
Luke immediately stiffened, looking at the wolves around him. The wolf behind me was the one to break the silence. *It’s not possible! She’s lying.*
I turned back to him, and his eyes widened. “I’m not lying.”
I turned back to see Luke had moved next to Daniel, and they were looking at each other, a silent agreement passing through them. Slowly, Luke’s eyes returned to me. “How did you hear us?”
I shrugged, looking down. For some reason, I felt really guilty under his gaze. He sighed, and I snuck a peek at him. He shook his head, suddenly looking very serious. “We need to tell my father of this.”
I quickly shook my head. I didn’t want to see William. To be honest, I wished I knew less about him now, because truthfully, he scared the crap out of me. I didn’t want to see him upset.
I was about to make up a lame excuse, when I heard laughter. I looked up just in time to see John hop down from a branch. The branch was so high; the fall would have definitely killed a human. But he landed lightly on his feet, acting like it was nothing.
He stepped through the crouched werewolves, not giving them a second glance. His eyes stayed on my, and I saw determination in his eyes. He smiled, and my eyes subconsciously went down to his lips. “I swear Rose; I can’t leave you alone for 10 minutes without you getting into some trouble.”
He came up to me and, cupping my face in his hands, he kissed me. Right in front of everyone. I heard an aggressive growl from behind me, and the next second john was gone. I opened my eyes, which I hadn’t realized I had closed, and I saw John on the ground with Luke on top of him.
