Luke’s POV
I don’t know how she dragged me into this.
My sister, Sophie, has only been gone to that high school for one day, and she’s already excited for some stupid prom. Now she’s dragging me through the whole mall, wasting money on everything ‘cute’ she sees. I swear she’s going to make our family poor. Well, she would if that was possible. But with all the money that my parents have earned over there four hundred years, I don’t think it’s very likely. But she’s definitely made a dent.
“Luke, you are going to take me to the prom, right?” she asked, ripping me from my thoughts. It took a few seconds for me to process what she said.
“And why would I do that?” I asked, turned to face her.
“Because you love your sister?” she said, but it sounded more like a question. When I raised my eyebrow, she smiled and turned back to the rack she was going to. “Luke, your car is the coolest car ever, and I know you would never let me drive it.”
“Damn right you’re not driving my car. Why don’t you just drive yours?”
She turned to me again and put her pouty lip on. “Luke, my car is small, and if me and my friends ride in it, we’ll be squished together. Will you drive us? Please?”
I sighed and slowly nodded. God, I was such a push over for her. But when she didn’t get her way, she wasn’t a pretty sight. She was 5’5 with short, brown hair and dark blue eyes. She was thin, and completely insane. That was bad when mixed with her temper.
She smiled and thanked me, but quickly turned her back to me, searching through the endless clothes again.
When we got to the fourth or fifth store, I had had enough. To get away, I told her I had to go to the bathroom. But she was pretty smart, and she said I could go, but she would watch me walk in, and wait for me until I got out. I complained at first, but she never changed her mind when she decided something. I really felt bad for whoever her mate was.
So I walked into the bathroom, and went straight to the faucet. I stopped in front and looked up at my reflection. I had my blonde hair ruffled, a habit I’ve gotten into when I’m frustrated or thinking. My eyes were a light, icy blue color, and it freaked out most people. But I loved it. I ran my fingers through my hair again, trying to fix the bed head look.
As I was looking around, I started to get excited. I quickly realized it wasn’t me, but my wolf.
Calm down! What’s the matter with you? I asked, walking toward the door. But my wolf quickly stopped me.
Wait, stay in here for a few more minutes. How about you go mess with your hair again, or something. Just, don’t leave yet. He answered quietly.
Weird. My wolf doesn’t talk to me much, so the sudden outburst was surprising. But my wolf usually knows best, so I went back to the mirror.
I leaned against the counter and looked around. Why would my wolf want me to stay in here so badly? As I was standing here, another man came in, and, giving me a strange look, he entered one of the stalls. After another minute passed, I was starting to get a little impatient, and I started for the door.
But when I got about halfway, the door opened and the sweetest scent ever hit me. It was like caramel, or butterscotch, and another smell I couldn’t quite recognize. I froze when I saw the girl the scent belonged to.
She was absolutely stunning. She was tall, but not as tall as me. But that was understandable, considering I was well over 6 feet. Her hair was a white blonde, and she was kind of pale. She had her eyes closed, so I couldn’t see her eye color. She leaned against the door, breathing hard. After a few more seconds, she seemed to realize she wasn’t alone, and she opened her eyes.
My breath got caught in my throat as I stared into her bright green eyes. I haven’t ever seen anyone’s eyes that shade of green. She froze and her eyes widened slightly, and she took a step back, running into the door. She looked kind of scared.
My wolf whimpered slightly, thinking that she was afraid of me. I immediately understood. My mate. I finally found my mate. I took a step toward her, and as she seemed to get past her shock, she stepped toward me also. The scent of her got stronger, and I loved it. I took a few more steps until I was right in front of her.
She looked confused, but thankfully she didn’t move away. I finally realized I was smiling like a complete idiot, but I didn’t care. We just stood there for a few more seconds, when I heard a toilet flush behind me, breaking our moment. I turned and watched as the guy that came in earlier came out of his stall. He froze and looked at the girl, whose name I really needed to find out, and he tilted his head.
“Young lady, you do know this is the men’s restroom… right?” he asked, moving to the faucets. I turned and watched as the she finally seemed to realize the urinals. Her face became a dark red, (which is one of the cutest things I have ever seen), and she mumbled a quick sorry.
She turned to leave, but stopped at the door and looked at me. She tilted her head and opened the door. I quickly grabbed the side of the door from the top to let her leave before I did. She gave me a dazzling smile and walked through with me right behind her.
