Many, many years after the rebellion had ended, Haymitch got really ill. All those years of drinking had finally bit him back.Yet, it didn't affect him. He was happy. When Katniss came in, to say her last goodbye's to her mentor, Haymitch died. But he didn't leave her with nothing. In his lap was a gold necklace and a note. On the note it read,
"Sweetheart,
I know I gave you a hard time and I messed things up with Peeta, but you should know I'd walk you through it for you both. You are my kids. And I love you.
Btw, good job staying alive,
Haymitch."
