Alice excused herself from the group and began on her way to her bedroom. She had really had enough of this party and would come down when she smelt dinner was ready. Maybe she'd just read a good book. Like 'Library of Souls' or 'Empire of Storms'. Yeah, that would be absolutely... perfect.
Completely and utterly perfect. That was how he looked tonight. But she wouldn't smile at him. She wouldn't even look at him. She'd just walk past and...
"Alice. We really need to talk." Ellion said, guilt etched into those perfect features and she melted under the gaze of his chestnut eyes.
"Heah." She squeaked awkwardly. Oh, crud. Think Alice, what would Sapphire say?
You are a gorgeous, strong, badass sorceress with kickass powers and you do not need a boy to save you.
"I'd rather if we went somewhere more...private." He said and she froze. What was happening? A second ago he hated her. She ran her finger over the cut he left in her arm from training. She had refused to get it healed to remind her of why she was mad at him. Now it just made her want to cry.
"Well, I guess we could go to my room or the library. Although they look like almost the same thing now." She gave a small laugh.
"Just follow me outside." He said and she did as he asked. He led her outside to the rose garden with the swinging egg chair and fairy lights and gestured for her to sit down. So she did and he stood in front of her with an old acoustic guitar and a nervous look on his face.
"If I told you, this was only gonna hurt. If I warned you that the fire's gonna burn, would you walk in? Would you let me do it first? Do it all in the name of love? Would you let me lead you even when you're blind? In the darkness? In the middle of the night? In the silence, when there's no one by your side? Do it all in the name of love." He sang and he played and a glowing smile spread across her face. His voice was so smooth and sweet.
"If I told you we could bathe in all the lights, would you rise up, come and meet me in the sky? Would you trust me when you're jumping from the heights? Would you fall in the name of love? When there's madness, when there's poison in your head, when the sadness leaves you broken in your bed, I will hold you in the depths of your despair. And it's all in the name of love. In the name of love, name of love." Ellion was really blushing now. She wiped her sweaty palms on her clothes discreetly and began singing with him. She stood up and they inched closer towards each other.
"Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York city?" she added in for good measure as he sang,
"I wanna testify. Scream in the holy light. You bring me back to life, and it's all in the name of love. I wanna testify. Scream in the holy light."
"Little do you know." She tuned in as he piped up.
"You bring me back to life, and it's all in the name of love." His sweet voice filled her ears and she joined him again for the last part.
"In the name of love, name of love." The last three words were barely a whisper and their noses were millimetres from touching. He closed the gap and kissed her. She felt the fireworks bursting but also a soothing peacefulness.
"Does this mean you forgive me?" Alice asked softly.
"Yes. Does this mean that you forgive me?" he mumbled back and she gave a soft laugh.
"How could I stay mad at you?" she responded and heard cheers from the ballroom window upstairs. They jumped apart and Alice tucked her loose hair behind her ear, blushing furiously. Sapphire started belting 'kiss the girl' from the little mermaid at the top of her lungs and before long everyone else up there joined in.
"Shut up!" Alice yelled up at them playfully and laughed.
