"dallon there's a letter here for you." his mother called from the kitchen. he got up from the couch, where he was watching a move, and walked to the kitchen.
dallon retrieved the letter from his mothers hand. it was from harvard, addressed to mr. dallon j weekes.
he ripped over the envelope and read the letter. "i got a scholarship!" he shouted in disbelief.
his mother smiled and wrapped him tightly in a hug. "that's great, i'm so proud of you, sweetie!"
he lingered in the kitchen trying to grasp the fact he was going to harvard. he couldn't believe it. his older brother hadn't gotten in, but he had. who knows, maybe he could be the favorite child now. soon his mom will be pressuring him for a wedding and more grandkids.
"when are you going to tell brendon?" his mother brought up.
dallon hadn't thought of it. he hadn't thought about brendon. he felt selfish, putting himself first.
"i don't know." he quietly answered. "maybe we can go out to dinner and i'll tell him then."
"dallon, it's alright to put yourself first sometimes."
"i know."
