I smiled at my mother as she took a picture of me before turning to my father and smiling brightly as he looked at me happily.

"I can't believe that my little Fumiko has turned into such a beautiful woman."

I blushed at hearing that before turning back to my mother, her eyes sparkling as she ran a hand down my hair.

My hair was cascading over my shoulders and down my back beautifully as it came to rest gently against my light blue dress. I smiled again to myself before gazing over at the mirror in the living room, my dark hair contrasting beautifully against the light colour of my dress, my features illuminating delicately against the glow of the light in the room. Even though I had somewhat dreaded this night, I finally felt excited to be going to my prom.

"Fumiko, don't pull on your dress like that, you'll get it crumpled." My mother chided as she fixed my dress. "Just wait right here. I have something for you"

"Okay mom, but you have to hurry up"

As soon as she left the room I hurriedly slipped my hand in my purse and took out the small rectangular box I was hiding. Inside it was the pendant Sora had given me on my birthday. I pulled it out of the box immediately and held it up in the air, the silver rhinestones in the little heart sparkling.

"Let me do it"

My head snapped to the right when I realized that my father was standing not far from me and holding out his hand.

I gently slipped the silver chain in his hand and watched in the mirror as he placed it around my neck, my face lighting up when I realized how well it suited me.

"It's really pretty" I admitted as I gazed at my reflection.

"Yes, it is" he agreed before turning away from me.

"Dad I-"

"I know, Sora gave you that on your birthday and it means a lot to you"

I placed a hand on the top of my chest as I felt the rapid beating of my heart, the lone mention of his name causing heat to surge through my body.

"Fumiko!" My mother called as she hurried back into the room. "I found it! This will look so lovely in your hair!"

I smiled at her as she pinned a beautiful brooch in my hair, it's silvery addition matching in perfectly with my dress.

"Wow! Thanks mom!" I told her as I give her a hug.

"Oh don't worry about it, I just want you to look stunning tonight"

"Of course she will, she is my daughter after all" My father laughed.

My cheeks flushed warmly at that before I noticed my mother staring at my chest.

"Fumiko, where did you get this from?" She questioned as she pointed to the pendant Sora had given me.

"It's, um, I got it from-"

"Does it matter Moriko?" My father asked while stepping in for me.

Just as my mother was about to answer a rap came from the door. My father cautiously left my side and went to see who it was, but I already knew who the person was behind it.

"Goodnight Mr. and Mrs. Takagi" Jake told my parents as he stepped inside.

"Um, yeah" My father replied before looking back over to me.

Jake looked sharply dressed in his suit, his light brown hair nicely combed and done. He was quite attractive and exceedingly handsome but I still wasn't blown away by him.
