"Fumiko, what are you doing? You're not serious are you!?"
"I am mom." I stuffed my clothes in my suitcase and folded up another set of my things. I could feel the heat from her fury but I didn't bat an eyelash at her.
"What's wrong with you!?"
"Nothing, this is just what I want."
"What you want? What you want!? Fumiko, I can't understand why you gave up such a big opportunity for him and came back, I'm very disappointed in you but now you're moving in with him? Are you crazy!? I won't allow this!"
"Mom, Sora is everything to me." I pleaded, but it came out as more of a whisper.
"Are you moving in with him so you can be his girlfriend? I know you too have been sleeping together!"
"Mom, I'm not moving in with him to be his girlfriend. I'm moving in with him because I'm going to be his wife."
"Fumiko, what do you mean?"
"Mom, he asked me to marry him."
"What!?" She practically gasped. "Did you say yes?"
I nodded. Pain crept up in her eyes and she put her hand on my shoulder. It was clear that she still saw me as her little girl and her baby.
"Fumiko think about this, this is your entire life your talking about. Are you really going to give up everything for Sora?"
"Yes." I admitted very surly.
"Why?"
"Because," all the memories of us together flooded my mind. Sora's smile while I watched him working in his field, the way he glowed and even his adorable laugh. "I'm sad when he's with me and I'm heartbroken when he's not. I'm torn apart when he smiles at me and I cry if he doesn't. When he says my name, I'm miserable, if he doesn't I'm in agony. As long as I'm still alive and will continue to live, I will hurt until I know he'll always be mine."
"Fumiko."
"I would rather be here and he's not with me than have him and be far away. Then at least I could always see his smile. That would be better than never at all. Mom, I've grown up. I'm not a little kid anymore. I love Sora."
***
"Fumiko, are you sure about this?"
"Marriage is a very big deal."
"I know Mr. and Mrs. Saito but I love Sora very much." I assured them though they didn't seem convinced.
"Yes I know," Mrs. Saito continued, "But Fumiko you're still so young. Maybe you should wait a little, you're only nineteen."
"Haruka, we were young when we were married too." Mr. Saito added.
"Yes, I know but that was a different time back then. Maybe they should wait."
I smiled and shook my head. "Mrs. Saito I can't wait to be Sora's wife. I'm so excited!"
I jumped up off Sora's porch and spun around happily before stopping when I felt a little dizzy.
"Careful Fumiko." Mr. Saito cautioned as Mrs. Saito held me by the shoulder. I gripped my stomach, fluttered by an odd sensation before it died down.
"I'm fine."
"By the way, where's Sora?"
"I don't know, he should be coming back by now." As soon as I said that, I saw Sora coming my way, warmth flooded my chest at just the sight of him and his smile.
"Fumiko," he reached out when he was near enough and put a hand on my shoulder and another on my waist. "How did it go?"
"My mother was furious but my father understood."
He smiled and held me before kissing the top of my head.
"I want to marry you as soon as possible. I can't wait another moment." He murmured with his lips against my head.
"I feel the same."
"It's so beautiful to see you too together at last." Mrs saito chuckled.
"Sora?"
"Yeah?" He said beaming with happiness. "What is it?"
"Your father - That letter he wrote, I think he wanted you to know he was always proud of you."
"I figured out that much already."
"I guess in an odd way, you really were his strength when your mother died."
"I know," Sora sighed and smiled. "As I've told you I never hated him. He's made me really angry at times but I've never carried hatred in my heart. To be honest, he's the reason I'm the person you see today."
"R-Really?" I stuttered, surprised.
"He taught me how to smile through adversity and to be confident in whatever I do," I stared at him bewildered but he only nodded to me. "When my mother died, at least from what I remember, he was really devastated and he started snapping at me. When I cried I could see how much he regretted it and despised himself, so I learned how to smile through it so he wouldn't hurt so much. I considered that if I could pretend I didn't care, I could share his burden of sadness instead of letting him carry it on his own. I was just a child but I knew it would've been better that way."
"Sora, that's amazing."
"I don't think so." He rubbed the side of his head and smiled shyly
"I can't believe that someone like you exists. You must be a dream come true."
"I have to say the same about you as well, I never thought I would have such a beautiful person apart of my life."
I blushed a little and Mr. and Mrs. Saito laughed at my embarrassed expression.
I grabbed Sora's face without another moment of hesitation and kissed him and he did the same.
He was finally mine.
