Sora and I couldn't have been happier as a couple and our marriage was just that seal on our love. Everyday was utter bliss and even though I had him in my arms I still couldn't get enough of him.
When we we're in our second month of marriage and on our honeymoon something unexpected happened that neither of us saw coming.
I was pregnant.
When I told Sora he almost cried because of how happy he was. He spun me around before putting me down on a chair gently when he realized he had to be careful with me since I was expecting a baby.
When we went to the clinic and I had an ultrasound done, the doctor told us I was along by at least two and a half months which meant I had to have been pregnant before we were married. More specifically the night I slept with Sora before I left for the city.
It was comforting to know I did make the right choice because it would've been hard raising a child on my own, especially without Sora's love.
We decided to cut our honeymoon short and return home to share the news with everyone. My mother was so excited when I told her that she called everyone in her phonebook and told them I was expecting and how glad she was to be becoming a grandmother. She embraced Sora quite warmly, much warmer than before and finally accepted him as her Son.
My father, friends, Mr. and Mrs. Saito all had the relatively same reaction. Excitement, curiosity and happiness.
I never expected that becoming a mother would be so exciting and the feeling that a life was growing inside me was beyond words. I was going to give birth to Sora's child. My child. Our child.
I constantly asked Sora how he felt about becoming a father but he never gave a conclusive answer. I knew a part of him was afraid he would be like his father but I knew he would be okay.
When my stomach started getting larger, moving around became a little difficult, especially on the terrain we lived so Sora made me stay inside for the most parts.
I loved the attention he showered on me and the way he glowed almost as much as I did when he touched my stomach. Sora kept close to me and at night I could sometimes hear him praying for our baby to be born safe and healthy. Our child was everything to him and that was more than anything else.
When I asked him what he thought the sex of the baby would be he told me it didn't matter because whether it was a boy or a girl he would've loved our child the same.
So said so done, on exactly the ninth month of my pregnancy I went into labor. Sora panicked a lot but we got to the hospital quickly and I was admitted. We called everyone but I was having contractions really fast so we didn't talk for long. I was really frightened even though I didn't show it but I knew Sora picked it up because he wouldn't leave my side. When I finally went to the delivery room I cried a lot because I was terrified of how quickly everything was happening and because of the pain.
I wept even louder when I felt the nerve splitting pain becoming worse and Sora wasn't there. The doctors told him to wait outside but because of the way I screamed he rushed to me so they allowed him to stay. He held my hand and even though I squeezed it tightly, he didn't let go.
As scared as I was, his eyes told me I was going to be okay. Even through the pain I knew he was lending me his strength.
After only seven hours since the time I went into labor, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
She was the sweetest thing I'd ever seen and the cutest newborn in the hospital.
She was born with a full head of dark hair surprisingly, and Sora's dark eyes. Her smile was also the same as his, beautiful and glowing. When Sora held her in his arms he beamed brighter than the sun and he wouldn't let her go.
When my parents arrived they were over elated to see their grandchild. They both fought over who should hold her first and pointed out the little parts of her that were mine but overall everyone was so excited.
When I was released from the hospital after a few days, we brought her home happily. It took us some time to name her but when we finally did, it was perfect.
We were the proud parents of little Hikari Watanabe.
Light.
She was the embodiment of our love and affection for each other, our baby girl.
"Sora, where are you going?"
"Out to work." He smiled brightly but I frowned at him.
"Again!?"
"Yeah, I have a lot of farming to do." He leaned forward and kissed Hikari's forehead. She touched his cheek with her damp finger before smiling and putting it back in her mouth. "Thank you for bringing so much happiness to my life, Fumiko."
"Huh?"
"A few years ago, if someone told me I'd be this happy I would've thought it was a joke. You've brought so much happiness to my life and I know I'll never be lonely again. Thank you."
I blushed deeply and even Hikari beamed brighter even though she couldn't understand what he was saying.
"Okay, I'll see you later." He smiled while spinning on his heels happily but I stopped him.
"You're not leaving." I said, grabbing his collar but still holding Hikari.
"But Fumiko I have to work-"
"You watch the baby." I said wrapping her up closely in her blanket and handing her to him.
"What?" His brows furrowed but I crossed my arms.
"Everyday you go out and I have to wait for you all day with the baby until you come back. It's my turn to go out since I'm a farmer's wife and you'll have to watch the baby."
"What! How can you do that!? You don't even know much about farming!"
"I'll learn." I said stepping past him and grabbing his hoe which was lying against the porch. "I'll be back by the afternoon."
Sora's mouth fell and Hikari giggled while clapping her cute little hands together but I kept on walking until I was out in the fields and ready to work.
When I returned in the evening, dusk had already fallen and night was creeping up over the horizon, painting everything grey. My muscles ached and I was a bit sore but I felt good that I did some work though not as much as Sora would've.
When I was near home I saw him sitting on the porch, playing with Hikari. Her eyes were half lidded and she was smiling sleepily, obviously missing her mother but enjoying her father's company.
"Sora?"
"You're back."
"Yeah," I said, brushing the dirt off my clothes. "How was Hikari while I was gone?"
"She didn't cry a lot but honestly I'm glad I had the chance to stay home with her. I've been missing her company for a while and we finally had enough father and daughter time together."
"That's good to know. I'm tired, I didn't know working out would be this hard."
"It is," he laughed. "Even though I enjoyed staying with Hikari, I'd like to be the one doing the Farming. It's my job."
"Yeah, I guess so, besides, I miss my baby girl." I beamed as I picked her up from her father's arms and she smiled and buried her face against my shoulder.
"I underestimated you Fumiko." He said getting up and following me inside.
"Yeah, so don't do it again." I laughed and Hikari cooed.
