"Hey, how do we know this is the right way?"
"We don't. Space walker thinks he's a tracker."
"It's called cutting sign. Fourth year earth skills. He's good."
After what felt like an eternity to Nova, the rescue party finally met up as the Forrest began to thin.
"Keep it down or should I paint a target on your backs?" Finn said to the arguing delinquents.
"Paint a target. I suggest a big one." Nova smiled to Clarke and Finn. But Finn didn't seem to hear the joke. His body went rigid and Novas muscles tensed at the spotted flecks of blood on a small branch. She followed her eyes with Finn to see dots of blood splattered around a collection of rocks. Wet blood.A scream was what broke the silence among the group. A scream that made Nova shiver and want to run away. But she didn't.
"Now would be a good time to take out that gun."The rescue party came to a clearing where a very pale and limp Jasper was tied to a tree, moaning in pain. How very unsettling.
Clarke began to run to the boy but seemingly fell through the Earth, making Novas heart come to a halt. Bellamy held a tight grasp on her arm but was hesitant to pull her up. Nova ran to help with the others and soon Clarke was laying on top of Nova with a thudding heart.
"At least I get to say I've been too second base with Clarke Griffin." Nova eased the tension. Her heart was pounding too at the near death.Clarke panted as she rose from off of Nova and then held out a hand to help her up.
"Are you okay?" Clarke asked.
"I'm fine. You?"
"Yeah. We need to get him down."
"I'll climb up their and cut the vines." Finn volunteered.
"Me too." Wells attempted to help.
"No, stay with Clarke. And watch him. Nova?"
Nova knew she was a good climber due to evenings spent in the air ducts. Scaling a mammoth tree was slightly different to climbing a ladder though.
"Coming."The knots that kept Jasper standing up were tight. Novas hand were red by the time she had gotten one arm free, and it felt like dead weight once that limb was around her shoulder. The moaning at her every movement didn't help either.
"Be careful." Clarke shouted to the duo.
"It's my middle name Clarke."
There was no laughter. Silence grew heavy in the atmosphere, along with a feeling of dread.
Nova set her eyes upon movement in the trees. Within a matter of seconds, a black, Panther like creature sprinted from the foliage and lunged towards the group. Novas heart was beating out of her chest and her blood ran cold.
"Gun!" She shouted to Bellamy who reached for the missing weaponShe closed her eyes tight when the beast lunged for Bellamy. Her bones rattled when a shot rang through the air. When Nova opened her eyes, the creature lay dead in front of a shallow breathing Blake.
"I hate Earth." Nova mumbled to herself.Once back in camp, joviality and chaos filled the air. The creature was being spit roasted on the fire and auctioned off in exchange for wristbands. Nova clutched the metal star that hung around her neck and walked over to where the food was being dispensed with faux confidence.
She reached for a charred piece of meat when a large hand wrapped around her arm.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Bellamy asked in a gruff voice.
"I'm liberating myself Blake. And I suggest you let go of my arm before I dismantle your gun." She leaned in closer to Bellamy, her lips brushing agains his ear. "You'll have nothing then." Nova smiled before turning her back and walking away from a silenced Blake. She sauntered over to the drop ship with her food and ate it next to Jasper. She watched his chest rise and fall slowly and sent a silent thank you that it was not Finn lying on the table. Or Raven. She thought about her daily. They were family. And their little family was broken apart once again.
