"Nova? Nova? Wake up." The brunettes eyes fluttered open to find a wide-eyed Charlotte staring down at her.
"Ugh, mm...morning." Nova mumbled before achingly rising to her feet."The fogs cleared. We find the others and then we go home." Bellamy informed whilst walking briskly though the mouth of the cave.
"Well, this is a lovely start to the morning." Nova stretched, joining both Charlotte and Bellamy outside.
"Anybody out there! Jones?!"
A rustle in the near by foliage indicated that their companions were alive."We lost you in the stew. Where did you go?" Bellamy asked.
"We headed to a cave down there. What the hell was that?"
"It was a beautiful spring rain." Nova snarled, wiping the remaining drool from her chin.
"Where's Atom?" Bellamy smirked slightly.
"..."
The silence reassured that Atom was dead. Novas heart dropped. She could have saved him. She could have tried to help. The pain in her arm returning to a numbing throb.Nova was ripped from her thoughts as a scream tore through the Forrest. Looking to her side, Nova discovers that no one was clutching her hand.
"Charlotte." She breathed fear, running blindly towards the scream.Nova came to a clearing to see a shaking Charlotte clutching a tree for support.
"Oh my god." She mumbled at the sight of Atom. Waves of nausea washed over Nova as she stared at his blistered skin and his harsh breath.
At closer inspection, Nova could see that Atoms eyes were clouded as tears of pain slipped down his face.
A figure knelt down opposite Nova.
"Kill me. Kill me." He mumbled between shaky breathes. Tears sprang in Novas eyes as the bile began to rise.Bellamy and Nova stared at each other for a long time. Neither knowing what to do.
A small hand rested on Novas shoulder.
"Don't be afraid." Charlotte spoke softly, thrusting a knife into Bellamy's hand.
"Go back to camp." Bellamy ordered. The others did not object, scurrying away in the opposite direction.
Charlotte remained still.
"Charlotte. You too." The girl hesitated before turning around.
Silence filled the atmosphere, only Atom chocking on his own blood broke the stillness.
"You should leave too." Bellamy turned to Nova.
"I'm not going anywhere." She smiled solemnly, biting back the sting of tears. Bellamy almost looked grateful.A rustling sounded from behind the three.
"Clarke?" Nova questioned.
"I heard a scream." She explained, kneeling down next to Nova and opposite Bellamy.
"Charlotte found him. I sent her back to camp." The eldest Blake gulped.
"Please. Kill me." Atom begged. "Please."
Clarke broke the unsure silence that fell among the group.
"Okay, I'm going to help you." She spoke softly.
Se hummed melodically while taking the knife from Bellamy's tight grasp.
Nova had to cover her mouth to stop a sob escaping.
The steel knife plunged in and out of Atoms jugular in seconds, leaving the boy to bleed out slowly. Atoms eyes closed slowly, the boy finally stopped struggling and looked almost peaceful.
"May we meet again." The brunette mumbled.Nova was the first to rise. Wiping a stray tear, "we need to move his body back to camp. He should be buried with the others.
Darkness had fallen by the time Nova arrived back at camp.
"He everyone, they're back." Nova watched as delinquents began to gather round the entrance."It's about time. They were going to kill Jasper." Octavia spoke while exiting the drop ship. Stopping abruptly infront of Nova.
"Octavia ...I" Nova began to ramble, shielding the corpse from her sight.Octavia pushed past Nova with a furrowed brow.
Bellamy tried to stop his sister but failed. Nova watched with compassion as Octavia lifted the fleece away, uncovering the corpse of Atom.
"There's nothing I could do.."
"Don't." Octavia spat, storming past Bellamy and into the woods.
Nova smiled at Bellamy before also pushing past him in pursuit of Octavia."I don't want to talk Bellamy." Octavia urged at the oncoming figure.
"Then it's a good job I'm not Bellamy."
Octavias tear stained frown softened as Nova took a seat next to her. The two sat propped against a large oak tree. The pair sat in a comfortable silence, staring at the star littered sky.
"I know what you're going though." Nova began.
"You don't know me."
"I don't but you remind me of someone." Nova smiled, her eyes flickering to the large star in the sky that is the Ark.
"I know what it's like to lose someone you care about."
"Who did you lose?" Octavias voice became less hostile. Novas calming presence yielding a positive affect.
"A boy. He didn't die but I wish that he did."
"Why?"
Nova smiled, "do you know why I got locked up?"
"You built the illegal missile." Octavia confirmed, still gazing at the universe, unflinching.
"I didn't build it. The boy I liked dared me to sketch and plan the missile. He told me that we could take on the world with that weapon. I just thought he was joking, wanting to pass the time and watch me draw. So I did. A few weeks later I found out that the blue print was gone and he had people building the bomb, expecting to blow up part of the Ark. God I loved him, or at least I thought I did. When he was caught, he showed the guards my drawings and told them it was all me. Of course they believed him. I mean, he was a well respected engineer."
"What happened?"
"I ended up in a sky box while he's still breathing. I lost him."
The silence consumed them again. Only Raven and Finn knew that story. Nova didn't want anyone to know how weak and naive she was.
"I'm sorry." Octavia spoke, finally looking at Nova.
"Me to." She smiled back.
Octavia rested her head onto Novas shoulder. The duo sat in silence. Both drained from today's events. They remained unmoving for what felt like an eternity
