3rd Person*
It is February 2. Jordan and Lexi are with all of the other just varsity players on the bleachers behind the JV's bench. They are at St. Henry, their own school, and they are watching JV playing a good game against Harrison County. There are 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter of the game and the Cru were up by 6 points. The score was 22 to 16. All of the Varsity players were on their feet cheering very loudly for JV to go out of the 1st semester with a bang. Mackenzie, Emily, Taylor, Kara, and Marilyn were in on the court playing their hardest.
Jordan Pov*
Me: Come on Mac! Don't let her score!
Mackenzie was guarding the biggest girl on their team number 44. She looked like a truck ready to plow Mackenzie down. The girl had the ball and she turned around to Mackenzie squaring her up very closely since the girl was a lot slower than her.
Coach Sturgeon: You got it Mackenzie! Perfect defense!
44 drove on Mackenzie who stood her ground. From where we were we saw the girl maul Mac over. The ref blew his whistle and help his hand up. Then he did the motion for a charge and we all went crazy. Kara helped Mac up and slapped her on the back smiling. Mackenzie looked a little dazed, but I knew her she never admitted when she was hurt.
Coach Brown, the JV coach, tapped Marlena to get her in the game to give Mac a break. When Mac came over we all stood and cheered for her. Coach Sturgeon went up to the bench and gave Mackenzie a high five.
Coach Sturgeon: Way to hold your ground! That was great! Now you better do that in our game!
Mac: Of course coach!
The clock ran out of time and the players got ready to go to the locker room. We moved to be able to tell them great job. Mac was the last one of them.
Me: Yeah, Mac! You playin' like a pro out there! Keep it up!
Mac (running through the door): Thanks!
During halftime we all started shooting around until the girls came out. Lexi, Trisha, Sammy, and I crowded Mac telling her how good she was doing.
Trisha: Coach Sturgeon was so happy with you! He thought you were doing awesome!
Lexi: Yeah, seriously! I overheard him telling Coach Buerger that he wishes you could be on just Varsity! (lowering her voice) Don't let her know but he is thinking about moving Natalie back down and moving you up permanently. He said that you put everything into it and that you give a 120% everyday which is higher than he asks of anyone.
Sammy: Just keep it up, Mac! Hopefully you will be sitting next to us on the sidelines watching the JV players next game!
Me: You better be! That would be awesome! There is no way after tonight that he won't permanently put you on Varsity! You are working too hard for him not to!
Mac: Thanks, guys! That's really nice of you all to say that! Well I better get going.
Just then the horn blew for them to start getting on the court to start the second half. Mackenzie ran over to the huddle and shortly after she walked out into the court with Emily, Taylor, Kara, and Marilyn.
Lexi and I: Come on Mac! Kill 'em!
Sav and Connor: Let's go Kara!
They finished the game with a score of 39-36 with St. Henry at the top. Mackenzie had 4 threes and a bunch of other points.
Kara ran over to us and put on her warm up again while the other JV/Varsity players went to change. Mackenzie, Emily, and Taylor all ran out together. We all stopped for a second to cheer for Mac for her outstanding shots and game.
