Chapter Two
Adriel practically fell over when she heard her name called out. She felt as every gaze turned towards her, waiting for her to run to the platform. But she couldn't. She panicked as she tried to force herself forward, but it was as if her feet had melted into the ground.
"Adriel? He just called your name, you know!" A female classmate said from her left. She was sure that she had talked to her at some point, but her name was nowhere to be found in Adriel's mind. She was too focused on the path that had been made for her through the crowd. A path that looked a mile long.
"Adriel! Come forth! The union must be sealed!" Valafar yelled, most likely enraged by her sluggishness.
Come on, Adriel! Get it together!
Adriel then began to slowly move down the aisle. The demons around her all craned their necks, some shoving to the edge to see as she made her way to the platform. She heard as some of her classmates whispered things like "I knew it!" or "Why couldn't Caym have desired me?"
It was true. She and Caym had been friends since infancy. They spent much of their time together outside of demon training, yet she had seen him with so many other females that she never dreamed that he had those kinds of feelings for her. A mate was chosen by the male demon. His mate would be the one that he truly desired. And that demon was her. It's as if all her prayers had been answered today. She had asked Lucifer every day that he grant her a life with Caym, thinking that he was far from her reach. Apparently, all those years of playful banter and charm had been flirting! Who knew? Not her, that's for sure.
The sight of the stairs in front of Adriel snapped her out of her trance. It was show time. She looked up at the headmaster who was staring at her with an evil smirk on his sagging face. His eyes were still blood-red, glowing orbs which served to freak her out a little.
"Adriel..." Valafar said impatiently, though she was thankful he said it somewhat quieter this time.
"Pardon my disrespect, headmaster Valafar." She said sharply before climbing the stairs, stopping to stand behind Caym. She couldn't bring herself to look at him quite yet. She knew that if she did, she wouldn't be able to look away. Just remembering his broad, muscled chest showing behind his open vest sent chills down her spine.
"Now that I have you two together, finally, let's seal the union, shall we?" Valafar said, his voice low and almost raspy. "Your hand, Adriel?" He gestured for her hand which she willingly gave over to him. She hated the feeling of his clammy skin against hers, but she was soon relieved to have her hand placed upon Caym's. It was then that she finally faced him, looking into his beautiful blue eyes. She imagined that his eyes were what the earth's seas were like: stormy and unpredictable.
"It is time to repeat the sacred oath to one another." Valafar bellowed for everyone to hear. His eyes were now changing to a deep azure, swirling like clouds before a storm, or at least what she imagined a storm looked like.
Adriel mindlessly took in a deep breath and let it go slowly before beginning the vows. Caym, being a gentleman, was waiting to follow her lead. She gave him a small nod before they began:
It is today, We are joined
We are joined as servants of Lucifer
We are joined to serve one another
Hail Our Lord, Lucifer!
Again, the voice that spoke didn't sound right to Adriel. It couldn't have been hers. The voice that escaped her lips was thick with lust, something that was very foreign to Adriel. A new feeling was spreading through her. Possession? Lust? Adoration? Perhaps all three? She had never looked at Caym as anything other than an equal. Until now. Now he was hers. And then again, she was his. It was as if he could do no wrong in her mind now. She would always protect him. She would always love him.
Love, HA! What a load of Satan's spit!
Adriel had always thought of love as a myth, yet here she stood. Staring. Loving the handsome demon standing in front of her.
"Seal it! Quickly, for Lucifer's sake!" Valafar hissed, almost forcing the two newly mated demons into each other's arms.
Adriel was overwhelmed by the feeling of Caym's arms around her. They had been in this exact position only moments after the human assignment, yet this felt very different. Her skin felt like fire the moment he touched her. It manifested a heat within her that she didn't know existed. The magnificent sensation started at the tip of her toes, traveling throughout her body until it was almost dizzying.
"Are you ready, Addie?" Caym whispered, mere inches away from her. All she could manage was a small nod in reply before she felt his hot lips surge forward to meet hers.
Ecstacy. Brilliance. Magnificence. Those are the words that came to Adriel's mind as Cayms lips claimed her own. It was like nothing she had ever experienced. She relished in the feeling of his soft, rich lips against hers. It took her a moment to adjust to the kiss before she finally began to participate. She moved her mouth in perfection synchronization with Caym's, following his lead the whole time. She surprised herself by letting out a small whimper when he pulled himself away. She felt as if she were no longer whole without his embrace.
"I am yours now, my darling. And you are mine." He whispered before leading her down the stairs into the crowd of cheering demons.
Lucifer, please give me the strength not to rip my mates clothes off until we get back to our quarters.
Caym had no other choice but to pray. He couldn't help but gaze at his "mate's" luscious body. He knew of her personal thoughts about herself, and they were all false! The leather top that most of the female's wore only served to make his lust worsen. It showed every curve of her ample breasts, practically showing him what they looked like. He had heard Zagan and some other demons talking about the small, unholy garment one day. They had heard that on earth, they call the style of top a "bra" or something like that. To Caym, it didn't matter what she wore. She could have been wearing the long, bulky robes that Valafar always donned and she would still be lovely.
Caym surveyed the other females that were scattered throughout the hall. They had all gone to great lengths for this night, probably spending hours on their hair and makeup. All they did was make themselves look even more whorish than usual. But Adriel? Definetly not. Her bright green eyes were lined with gold and coal, making them look even more exotic than usual. Her lips were plump and only slightly darkened, unlike the bright red lips of the others. To Caym, no one could compare to his beauty. His darling mate. His Adriel. He could finally say it. He had been waiting his whole life to be able to call her his.
"What in Lucifer's name are you staring at?" Adriel whispered, tightening her grip on his hand. He hadn't realized that he had been glaring at her throughout his dreamlike state.
"Am I not allowed to stare at my answered prayers?" He said with a wink, making her rosy skin darken even more. She had always been a blusher. Caym took pride in being the only one that could embarrass her like that. He loved watching her face light up as she caught the meaning of his words.
"You prayed for this? For me?" She whispered, a smile testing her cheeks as to how far they could stretch. He hadn't ever seen her smile as wide as she was now.
"Of coarse I did. I've adored you since we were small imps. I could have sworn that you knew my feelings, since everyone else around here guessed them." He had never made it a habit to hide his affection for her. He had spent many years charming her, attempting to woo her into having the same feelings. The fact that she was oblivious to his attempts served to make the chase even sweeter.
"I prayed for you too. I-" She was cut off by the sound of the gong radiating throughout the hall. It was signaling the closing of the ceremony. All eyes turned toward the headmaster once again, waiting for his closing words of wisdom.
"Now, my sons and daughters, it is time for you to make Our Lord proud! It is time to go to earth. To inhabit the unworthy bodies of the petty humans and use Lucifer's gift well. At this time, you will all go to your new quarters. Honor your families! Males, take your new mates and bring forth our next generation of demons!" Valafar's now almost hoarse voice boomed throughout the hall. It was then that every demon in the hall raised their right arms, touched their heart, and clasped hands with the demons beside them. Before the new couples could exit, they said the traditional farewell in unison.
"Ma'a as-salaama! Hail Shaytaan! Hail Lucifer!"
