CHAPTER TWELVE

Caym eyed his opponent carefully. The tall, brutish demon snarled as they both searched for weaknesses in one another. A smile crept onto Caym's face. He knew where he would strike first. This would be so easy that Caym almost felt bad for the other demon. Almost. He was so pleased with himself that he almost stopped thinking about Adriel for a moment. Almost.

The whistle sounded and the two demons leapt into action. The only sound left in the practice arena were grunts and fists meeting skin. Everyone had gathered to watch the two massive demons spar. Caym could tell that the towering demon, who was called Vepar, was beginning to struggle. Yes, he was strong, but Caym was fast and full of stamina. He could outlast him for sure.

Vepar continued to land heavy blows to Caym's upper body, at one point slamming him back into the wall. But this was Caym's plan. He could see Vepar tiring already, and Caym had barely begun to unleash his wrath on the demon. He had been mearly deflecting the blows until this point. But, it was time to light the bulky demon up.

He started thinking of Adriel. He pictured her face along with that damn angel that came along and ruined everything. Suddenly, Vepar started looking more and more like Oriphiel. He could see the cocky look on the angel's face, only serving to light a fire within him. He felt the angel's fist connect with his jaw, sending his sprawling backwards into the crowd. He spit the blood from his mouth and took action.

Without warning, Caym began fighting back. He swung his arms at the demon's face and upper body, catching him by surprise. Vepar stumbled, losing all sense of balance. He fell down, only to be punched by Caym, who continued to wail on him with impressive shots. Blood now poured from Vepar's nose and mouth, leaving trails of thick, purple liquid.

Caym unleashed himself upon what looked like the angel. His hatred blinded him. He swung his arms wildly, seeming as if he were everywhere at once. His catlike reflexes allowed him to dodge the slow swings coming from his tired opponent. The demon didn't even have the strength to push Caym off of him.

It was obvious that the fight was over. Caym had won, leaving Vepar laying on the ground like a limp noodle. A few demonesses from the crowd hurried over to the unconscious demon's aid, whispering about Caym's "wildness". That made him smile. He was still the best fighter in hell, but the victory had definitely stroked his ego.

It was true that he had lost a little control, taking out his ample rage on his opponent. The fire within him still flickered slightly, but it burned no where near as hot as it had during the fight. He was back in control.

He watched as Vepar was carried away from the sparring area, feeling a bit of guilt for putting him in such a state. Sparring rarely ended in an unconscious partner, but it wasn't unheard of. In fact, this was the first time Caym had taken someone out so easily. He had never knocked anyone completely senseless as he just had.

Making his way back to his chamber, he avoided eye contact with everyone he passed. Word had spread about he and Adriel's situation. It was true that they were not the norm. Usually, couples didn't care what each other did in their earthly forms, but they were different. Their love was deep. Or at least his was. He hadn't touched another woman on earth. He had no need to. He had been spending his days surfing and having fun. Fun that didn't involve being with other women in such intimate ways. That's why he was sickened to think about Adriel being with someone else.

He shook his head, trying to free himself of the depressing thoughts. Dwelling on things would accomplish nothing...Yet he still couldn't bring himself to look Adriel in the face.

Adriel paced around her and Caym's chamber, playing Lucifer's instructions through her mind. It had been a few hours since she returned to hell, and their last conversation was all she could think about.
