Chapter Five

Throughout the next few days, the demons were overwhelmed by travel preparations. The first body travel was rumored to be excruciatingly painful, but overtime the pain would subside. Adriel wasn't looking forward to that.

"How bad do you think it's going to hurt?" She whispered to Caym. He was cradling her in his arms as they laid across their bed, exhausted from the training they had endured that day. It was also rumored that their travel training was the most intense that it had ever been. Adriel suspected it was because Valafar was still rattled from the visit from the angels.

"I don't know, Addie. But I have to say, I am definitely looking forward to not having to sleep anymore. Can you imagine how fun this is all going to be?" His voice was light- hearted, almost giddy. Adriel smiled at him, kissing his nose softly before snuggling against his chest.

When demons graduated and traveled to their human's bodies, they traveled during the demons night hours. The humans slept during the demons' day-time hours, ceasing the traveling demons' need for sleep.

"But look at the damage our Lord as done to the planet that we are being sent to for basically half of our lives!!!" Adriel wanted to tell him, but she couldn't. A big part of her mind, and even her heart, was telling her that Lucifer was her Lord and that she shouldn't question him.

"I agree." Was all she said. They would be traveling in less than two days, and she couldn't decide if she was excited or not. If you had asked her a week ago, she would have been itching to travel. She would have squealed with joy when asked about her human assignment... But for some reason, her thoughts were different now.

"What do you think earth will be like?" Listening to Caym was like listening to a little imp who watched his parent's travel every night. He was in awe of earth, in awe of the demons before him... Just like Adriel had been.

Adriel sighed, realizing that she had to answer him. She didn't want him to know about her doubts. "I've always dreamed of the colors. I mean, Hell is my home and I love it... But sometimes I wonder if there's anything brighter out there. You know?" She thought back to the dreams she had had. She dreamed of colors that she didn't even have a name for." I think that's what I'm going to miss." She mumbled. She wasn't even sure if Caym heard her.

She felt his body shift beneath her. "What are you going to miss?" He asked, his voice growing groggy. She looked up to see that his eyes were fighting to stay open, his head was lolling against the headboard.

Knowing that he wasn't far from sleep, she didn't see the point in hiding from him. When she thought about it, he was the only demon that she would ever share something like this with. Even if she wasn't sharing her recent doubts with him, she still felt a need to tell him absolutely everything.

"My dreams... I think I'll miss them more than anything. They were my favorite escape. They've allowed me to live in a perfect world for a while..." She whispered, thinking back to the vibrant, elaborate visions she had spent so many nights enjoying.

The chamber was deathly quiet after that. The only sound Adriel could hear was Caym's heart beating beneath her ear. They spent the rest of that night in silence. Adriel's mind was wild, wondering if he had even heard her. She worried for what seemed like hours until she finally drifted into a deep, dream-filled slumber.

Every demon in hell was lined along the edge of the River Styx, waiting for the gong to sound. Adriel stood next to Caym, holding his hand tightly. She had prepared her whole life for this day, yet now she was afraid. What was she supposed to do once on earth? What if earth isn't worth the pain it takes to get there? Sweat poured down the sides of her face. Her breathing was shallow and heavy.
