Chapter Four
"Angels?" Adriel gasped, jerking her top back into place. Luckily, Zagan had been too caught up in telling Caym about the attack to notice her bare chest.
"Fighter angels. They've come to warn us. To warn Lucifer. Apparently God isn't happy about some disasters on earth, and he's blaming our Lord. The Fighters are here to shed some blood as their warning." Zagan rambled. His eyes were crazed and his voice was cracking as he spoke.
Adriel had never seen a Fighter before. She and Caym had accidentally seen Azrael, the Angel of Death, once. But, like many other demons, they had never born witness to any Holy Angels, let alone a Fighter.
The Fighters were God's army. While Holy Angels walked the earth, created miracles and shed light on humans, The Fighters did the dirty work. And they enjoyed it. Holy Angels were the purest forms that God ever created. Their wings were so white that they were almost blinding and their faces were said to be so beautiful that they could make you weep with longing. But Fighters were different.
Fighters had an unholy edge to them. They had the ability to take life with ease. Their wings could cut you like knives, forged by God to be their greatest weapons. They were said to be almost wild, having no mercy unless commanded by God. Adriel had a feeling that they didn't come offering mercy tonight.
"Is anyone hurt?" Caym asked, his voice as cold as ice. His eyes were like daggers, sharp to the point that they hurt to even look at.
"Not yet. Everyone is going mad though. Most of everyone is in the armory as we speak. They plan on fighting back." Adriel could hear Zagan gulp when he mentioned fighting back against The Fighters. Adriel was surprised to feel a bit of fear well up in her stomach.
"Caym, let's go... They need us." Caym caught the meaning of her words. They would be huge assets to the other demons in a fight. Their skills were known throughout hell as some of the greatest seen in centuries.
He nodded in reply, taking her hand and shoving past Zagan. They hit the hallway at a sprint, heading towards the armory. Both of them were on edge, searching for any danger. Adriel could hear Zagan's heavy footsteps behind them, barely keeping up. The demons ran as fast as they could through the winding corridors, halting for nothing... Until they saw him. Oripheil, the angle of wrath was standing just ahead of them.
Adriel's breath hitched, fear flooding through her. Her eyes widened at the sight of him, but Caym soon blocked her from seeing him. They had all skidded to a halt about fifty feet away from the angel. They would want to keep their distance if they intended on living.
"Stay behind me." He said through the side of his mouth. He knew that the angel could hear every little sound around them. He could probably hear their very hearts fluttering as they stood in anticipation.
"Hello, little demons." The angel said through a crooked smile. Adriel peered around Caym's broad shoulders so that she could examine this angel that was known to show greater wrath than any demon ever could. He was the leader of The Fighters. Adriel took in his appearance, almost gasping. He was startling. He was tall, probably even taller than Caym. His body was broad and muscular, outlined by fitted leather that allowed his body movement in a fight. She had been told that Fighters were no fans of armour. His arms were bare, his tan skin stretched tightly over bulging biceps. He had them crossed behind his back, likely holding the two curved swords that he was known for wielding. His male prowess was overwhelming.
"What are you doing here, Oripheil?" Caym spat, saying his name as if it were an insult.
The angle lifted his head, allowing Adriel to see his face fully now. His skin was flawless. He was blessed with cheekbones and full lips that any female would kill for, but he was anything but feminine. His eyes were a startling steel grey. Dark locks of wavy hair fell across his forehead, the exact same color speckled his cheeks and chin in a scruffy beard. When he opened his mouth to speak again, his smile all but blinded the demons. His teeth were perfectly straight and glowed brightly behind his lips.
