I awoke to Ashlyn shaking me and screaming. As i blearily tried to wake up another shock wave hit the house and sends her sprawling. I'm up in a flash, picking her up and making sure she's okay. i look out the window to see another bomb hit and send a shock wave that nearly knocks me on my arse. "well crap," as I steady myself, i look at Ashlyn in my arms and see that a piece of the ceiling had cut her forehead. "Shiznits!" I curse under my breath. I hold her close and run outside to the storm shelter, hoping against hope that she was okay and the shelter will hold up against the bombs. I just barely run in, shut and lock the door, when another shock wave rips through the ground, knocking me off my feet. I hit my head on the floor and everything goes black.
I wake again to shaking, though this time it's gentle, so i wove it off, roll over, and tried to fall back asleep. I'm shaken again, so i sit up, and am kissed awake. I open my eyes and can't see anything, then Ashlyn opens the dooor and i'm blinded by the sunlight pouring through. Thats when the previous days events come crashing down on me. Dang it! i thought it was a dream. When I'm finally able to open my eyes again, I see that ashlyn has bandaged her head. I reach up and she catches my hand. "It's nothing, just a bump and a scratch." I give her a skeptical look, but let it go. We have bigger problems right now to deal with, but I will make sure she sees somebody.
As we step outside, it's a wonder how we survived. The was nothing left standing, we stand there looking in awe. I realize where the sun is and do a quick calculation, we could make it to the city by nightfall, if we started walking now. Hopefully it was still standing and had an intact hospital, so after packing a couple bags, just in case, we head off to the city. As we started, my doubts grew as I saw the path of destruction. About halfway there, Ashlyn collapses, i catch her before she hits the ground. i take a look at her head, its worse than i had thought and this heat isnt helping. i'm about to pick her up when the sun is blocked. I look up and some guy is standing there. He is tall, muscular, built like a refridgerator. He bends down to pick Ashlyn up and for some reason this just pisses me off. I am able to get my knee in his face before he restrains me. when i realise it's futile to struggle all me anger leaves and I just go limp. He lets me go, and, in a deep bass voice, speaks, "I'm just trying to help, are you going to freak out on me again?" I shake my head, "good, we need to get to my place. i have experience in the medical field and can help your girlfriend." He picks her up and starts walking, I follow him, warily, but knowing i can't do anything. He starts talking as we walk, "You have a lot of speed, no one has been able to hit me with any type of force besides my brother. I'm Matt, by the way, Matt Schild." I cut in as he takes a breath, "Are you related to Patrick Schild, pre chance? I know him from school, he taught me some hand to hand combat." He looks at me in surprise, "Ah, yes i am. so that was how you got me. You'll see him when we get to my place."
It was near dark when we finally reach the house, he hands Ashlyn to me and unlocks the door. When we walk in im surprised to see a lab. He has me set Ashlyn down on a bed in the corner. unbinding her head, he asks me how she got the wound. "we were in the house when the bombs were dropped, she had woken me up then hit by something falling from the ceiling." he checks the rest of her vitals as he listens to me. "Ok, she has lost a lot of blood and most likely has a concusion. Your not going anywhere for a while, you're gonna have to stay with us until this heals." I breathe a sigh of relief, "As long as shes ok, Its fine. I was actually going to ask if... we... could...." my words started to slur together and the room went fuzzy, then doubled and fuzzy, the fade to black, as, for the second time in my life, I fell unconscious.
