we were just walking, we had been for days on end, managing to find food and water here and there. we started to walk into the desert, bringing with us food and water. We were about a day in and We only had about half our rations left. the sun was getting to me that much We knew. it was what i thought around noon on the second day when i started to stumble around. i wasn't watching where i was going and fell over something, landing with a thump that muffled by the sand. i roll over and up to my feet, not knowing what to expect. i thought it would be an animal of some sorts or a rock but i definitely didn't expect this.
A girl lay there completely passed out, i immediately bent down to shake her shoulder, hoping to wake her. no such luck, so i turn to Ismira, "How much water do we have?" I ask.
She doesn't even bother to check "Not enough to wake her." Not a good sign, hopefully shes being factual and not jealous. I roll the girl over so shes on her back, shes really pretty though it looks like she tried to make herself look unnoticeable. I decide that , though its covered in blood, the lab would be the best place to be for her at the current moment. So i gently pick her up, cradling her in my arms and start to walk toward the city. "What are you doing?" Ismira asks, an edge to her voice that i really hope i imagined
"Going back to the city, she needs water" i respond without looking back
"She won't survive that long" She runs up beside me and sets a hand on my shoulder "Why not just leave her here and continue?"
"Okay, what's wrong with trying to save her, huh?" I turn to face her, seeing the glint of jealousy behind her eyes
"Because it will be a waste of time, she will die just like the others." She shoots back with unnerving certainty
I turn away at that and continue toward the city, throwing over my shoulder "If you want to continue then go ahead, but i'm going back to the city." I hear her grumble behind me all the way back
It's after dark by the time we get to the house i open the door and finally get her to the bed i woke up in only a couple days before. I work through the night getting the equipment set up and running again(Thank goodness for backup generators) and i finally have her in what the equipment seems to say as a stable condition. She then wakes in a panic, flailing about, quickly i restrain her so she doesn't hurt herself or the equipment. When she finally calms down i let go and look down at her with a smile "You're safe now, what's your name?"
