It’s been a while since my last date with Dalton, since he’s been really busy with the band. I understand, but that doesn’t make it easier. But it’s okay, because I know that we’re strong and secure in each other. I smile to myself. But tonight, he promised that we would go out to dinner and I’m not gonna lie, I can’t wait. I’m even putting on makeup, now ifthat’s not dressed up, then I don’t know what is.
Okay, stay calm, calm and collected, calm and collected, calm and colle—WHO AM I KIDDING, THIS IS SO EXCITING, I HAVEN’T SEEN HIM IN SO LONG AND I JUST CAN’T WAIT! Okay, calm down.
I finish my light makeup with a sweep of mascara and smooth my dark blue, knee-length chiffon dress. I take one more glance at my reflection and blush when I think of what Dalton will look like tonight. My stomach does somersaults that evolve into back flips when the doorbell rings. I fix my hair and nervously smooth my dress as I walk to the door.
Dalton grins when he sees me, his eyes lighting up as he offers me a bouquet of colorful flowers.
“Thank you,” I say, “Come in while I go get some water for these.”
He steps in and closes the door behind him as I rush to the kitchen for a vase and some water. I can already feel my cheeks burning with excitement and anticipation. My fingers shake as I slip the flowers into the tall, thin vase and set it in on the dining room table. “Okay,” I say, walking back over to Dalton who offers his hand, I place my palm in his and he laces our fingers together.
In the car, I ask him how the band has been and he tells me all about the tour. I smile like an idiot, he’s so cute when he talks about doing what he loves. “So, what have you been up to?” he asks playfully.
“Well,” I start, “not much, just following your tour and fangirling like an idiot from behind the computer.”
He chuckles and blushes just slightly.
At the restaurant, we barely pay attention to our food, because we’re so wrapped up in each other and everything just goes by in a blur.
Before I know it, we’re back at my house, the stars are out, and the crickets are chirping. “Well, Gabby, I had a really good time with you tonight. It was really nice to see you again.”
“It was great to see you, too, Dalton,” I reply breathlessly.
He smiles and begins to lean in slowly. I lean in as well, and our lips touch. It’s a soft sweet kiss to end the night. We pull back and he murmurs, “Good night, Gabby.”
“Good night, Dalton.”
I retreat back inside my house and watch as he drives away. My heart was pounding all night, and the butterflies in my stomach never stopped fluttering. I walk over to the table where I put the flowers and smell them, light and sweet.
