“Here,” you hold the ukulele in your hands and strum it once, checking to see if it’s in tune, “Okay, we’re good,” you turn to Cole and smile.
He smiles back, “Alright, it’s your turn to pick a song, so what will it be?”
You grin from ear to ear and reply, “I have the chords and for ‘Sunset’ by Ka Lia Yang.” It’s also called “Sexy Babies”, but he doesn’t need to know that.
He makes a thoughtful face, “Alright, I don’t know that one, but let’s go for it.”
You pull out your sheet with all the lyrics and chords and show it to him, strumming the first verse and singing it for him, to help him out. After about half an hour, he has it basically down, so you decide to try and give it a run-through.
You start off, You are the sunset in my heart, before I close my eyes, and when I wake up, then you’ll be my sunrise…
And he picks it up, You are the reason why I’m smilin’ every day, the only person who can make me feel this way… But fails miserably at the next line. He just starts laughing and can’t stop for at least five minutes straight.
And you wonder What is wrong with this boy? But then you remember that he was up all night and didn’t catch a wink of sleep. So you sigh and decide to save this for another day. But the sounds of his high-pitched laugh is infectious and pretty soon, you’re laughing alongside him, clutching your sides and unable to hold it in.
And it’s true, he’s the reason why you’re smiling every day, the only person who can make you feel this way, the only person who can make your day.
