“C’mon, it won’t be that scary,” Cole assured you, a slight smirk playing on his lips. He’d been trying to get you to watch the first Insidious film with him but you were reluctant. Scary films always left you with nightmares and pictures you couldn’t get out of your head. It just wasn’t a pleasant experience. “Please?” he pouted.

“Alright, alright,” you finally agreed. The two of you snuggled up on the couch and a bunch of blankets. Cole turned out the lights and you were afraid already. It was already ten o’clock at night and the darkness wasn’t comforting.

Every second of this film was terrifying. Every time something even remotely frightening came up on screen, you would shriek and cuddle into Cole, burrowing your face in his chest. Twenty minutes into the film, you are practically sitting in his lap and shaking from fear. You become hyper-aware of your surroundings, every little sound or movement causing you to jump. Cole chuckles to himself at your frightened antics and just slips his arms around you, hugging you to let you know that he’s there and you’re safe.

You didn’t think any of this was funny, but Cole sure did. You peeked out from being nuzzled into his chest and looked up at the screen, hoping to see something that wasn’t scary. Bad idea. You screamed at the horrific image on the screen and immediately hid under the blankets. You could hear Cole laughing out loud as he reached under the blankets to pull you back into his lap. The terror subsides as you rest your head on his shoulder, secure in his presence. He turns off the television and looks at you, trying not to laugh, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you so badly.”

You scrunch up your nose in reply and bury your face in his chest.
