Less than two days after my brawl in the street and my meeting with Professor Ozpin, I was strapping my bags to my custom motorcycle, about to leave for the transport station on my way to Beacon Academy.
When I was about done, Dad came out of the house to see me off. He gave me a loving smile before turning around to look at our home. "It's not gonna be the same without you here, son." It was easy to tell by the color crossing his face and the tone of his voice that he was on the verge of tears.
I embraced my father - my childhood hero. In return, he put his arm around my shoulders. "I'm sorry, Dad."
I heard a short snivel as he fought back his emotions. "Nothing to be sorry for, son. I'm so proud of you and the man you've become. I know your mom would feel the same." That meant a lot. Dad usually didn't get emotional, and he mentioned my mother even less often. He still missed her a lot. We both did.
"Did you visit her grave?" Dad asked.
"Yeah, I went yesterday on my way home from work."
"Good. Did you tell your boss you were leaving? Was he mad?"
"Yes sir, I did. He actually took it really well and wished me luck."
"That's good."
Silence followed. We stayed in that embrace for a few minutes until he spoke up. "You'd probably better get going. Don't wanna miss your transport."
"Yes, sir."
He hugged me tighter and kissed my head. "I love you, son. Take care and come back to see me."
"Yes, sir. I love you too."
Dad released me and watched as I got on my bike, fired up the engine, and rode away toward the station. I fought back my own tears as I went but didn't look back.

The airship was quiet as I stared out the window overlooking Vale. I was one of only four or five people on board. 'Not surprising. Beacon students should all be in class right now.' I looked at my scroll to review the message I'd received from Ozpin.
"Bring all of your luggage to the administration building as soon as you arrive. Leave it with the secretary and take the elevator to my office on the top floor. We'll be waiting for you. -Prof. Ozpin"
"Hm. Guess I shouldn't have really expected an entrance ceremony," I said, thinking out loud to myself.
The trip went by without incident. Eventually, the towers of Beacon Academy came into view, and before long, I was off and proceeding as ordered. I assumed correctly that the tall building in the middle was the admin building. I left my luggage at the desk and took the elevator up to the top floor. All the while, I just kept wondering how all of this was going to work out.
The elevator came to a stop, and Ozpin's voice came over the speaker. "Mr. (l/n), we're glad you could make it. Please come in."
The doors opened, and I stepped into a large circular room with stone flooring and a full panoramic view of campus. Before me stood Ozpin and a mature blonde woman with glasses and a purple cape (probably another teacher), as well as three other young people around my age. One was a tall, dark skinned boy with amber eyes, huge arms, and long black hair pulled back in a ponytail. There was also another boy, about my height, with sandy blonde hair glued into a pheuxhawk and green eyes. He seemed like a pretty cocky punk, as well as the class clown type. 'He and I would definitely be friends.' The last was a gorgeous little blonde girl with some red streaks in her hair, which she kept cut short and messy. She had beautiful blue eyes and a damn good figure to boot.
