“Move it!” Ridden shouted out his students. He was making the young mages do speed drills. “The enemy won’t wait for you prepare yourself!” He kept on shouting various phrases like that to make the Second Years put their butts in high gear.

And to think, we then get a session with Lieutenant Ross. Jared thought to Nadia as he ran back and forth from line to line.

At least she agreed to it. I thought for sure she was going to rat on us. Nadia thought back as she was dodging flying objects.

I still don’t fully trust her and it was yours and Mari’s idea to let her in. Jared accused.

I was only half certain at the time but I knew that we couldn’t go on as we were. She defended.

How much longer do we have to do this? Jared asked.

Not much. Lieutenant Ross told us that if he ever keeps us past the end we should contact her. Nadia said that more for herself because the way he was drilling them today felt like it would never end.

If he ever keeps us longer than allowed, I’m going to kick his ass. The thought amused him.

“What’s so funny Dixen!?” Ridden shouted at him.

“Nothing sir!” He reported back.

“Then pick up the pace or I’ll give you a reason to!” Ridden threatened.

Bring it. Jared thought.

It had been only three days since the Lieutenant agreed to help train the three, but with the sudden increase in work load, it felt much longer than that.

“Alright you worthless slime, break and I’ll see you all back here tomorrow!” Ridden narrowed in on Jared. “And you better come here willing to work twice as hard.” Everyone groaned.

After Jared and Nadia had changed, they headed for the meeting spot, the East Central Library, before going to the training area the Lieutenant had sniffed out for them.

“You think Lieutenant Ross will be able to get us out of tomorrow’s class?” Jared asked hopefully.

“I doubt i-it.” Nadia sighed.

The path to the East Central Library was bricked red and was surrounded by trees. There was a sort of empty field between the East Central Library and the rest of the Academy. It was one of the few only buildings on campus that was not directly connected to any other building.

The building itself was a white cement that stood tall; its basic shape was that of a cathedral. From distance the library doesn’t seem all large or grand, but as it comes closer into view, the very being of the structure gives off an intimidating vibe. But since Jared and Nadia had been there so often, they really only saw it as a sort of safe haven.

“If you two were this punctual for my class, it’d be a miracle.” Lieutenant Ross was standing outside the great oak double doors.

“We’re always on time.” Jared defended.

“Only because you use that magic of yours to get the two of you there.” Mari spoke up from behind them.

“Gives us time to sleep in and relax a little bit.” Jared smiled. “All you need to do is ask and I’ll give you a lift to your class.”

“No thanks. It’d be pretty hard to tell Dolly that I won’t walk to class with her because I want to spend some quality time with my brother.” Mari walked up the few steps there were and stood to the right of Jared. Nadia was to the left.
