An ordinary day like none other on the Academy campus; classes were let out early for a teacher workshop so Jared happily made himself comfortable in the North Central Library, Nadia was getting some extra lessons from Ms. Fells and Mari convinced Lieutenant Ross to show her some advance magic she would need to know in a few years. And Devin and Dex found an empty classroom so Dex could continue teaching Devin the ways of a mage.

However, it only takes one second for a perfectly ordinary day to turn on its enjoyers.

The first time it occurred, no one noticed because there wasn’t much to notice. Just a small shake. Perhaps the people simply passed it off as a misfire of a spell or a class gone slightly wrong. The only wrong would be their thinking. But when a small shake turns into something, that is when it grabs people attention. And it did. The next shake was enough to throw everyone off their feet and running for cover. Ceilings started to collapse, floors crumbling away, students and teachers alike never opening their eyes.

It happened in an instant. An instant that no one saw coming. A section of their beloved Academy was destroyed with but a snap of fingers.

Jared was safe inside the North Central Library so all he heard as a very large explosion that caused him to jump to his feet.

“What the hell?” He shouted as he ran out so see what had happened. What he saw only made the terror he felt grow stronger. The Academy was being destroyed, Newages were running away while Upperyears were attempting to control the situation, which was only doing so much. In Jared’s panic, he was trying to call out to Nadia and Mari.

Mari! Nadia! Are you guys okay? Where are you!” Jared could only stand there with a feeling of helplessness creeping over him as he pictured the two of them dead. But he quickly shook away such thoughts as he reached into his bag and gripped his Legend.

There’s no way they’d go down without a good fight. Jared told himself over and over again. With renewed hope, he charged straight into the chaos to see what he could do.

Nadia heard a voice yelling inside her head as she slowly blinked her eyes open. She suddenly felt like she was being suffocated as she coughed out the dust that had been coating her lungs while she had laid unconsciousness. Her head hurt and the voice was gone. As she slowly stood up, she had to fight the dizzy feeling that had a firm grip on her mind. She had troubling gathering her thoughts.

“Ms. Fells office…” Nadia remembered as she leaned against a chair for support. She had been there talking with her teacher about multiple things. She looked around to see that the officer was no more than a pile of rubble. “Wha…?” Nadia stumbled her way out of the hole that used to be a doorway to better see the situation. All around was the same, dust and rubble. Her eyes were still a bit cloudy as she walked along a broken hallway to see if anyone needed help. As her vision cleared, so did her head. She stopped walking as she finally realized why there were no cries for help. Because there was no help for the dead. Nadia’s entire body froze as flashbacks from last year’s attack happened.

“N-Not again…please no.” Nadia whimpered as thoughts of both this attack and last year’s attack took over her mind.

“Move it! The East Central Library has more than enough room for all the students to take shelter!” Mari shouted as she directed the terrified students to an evacuation point. She and Lieutenant Ross had taken immediate action once they had gotten a grasp of the situation. The two of them were working hard with the other teachers to get students to safety.
