Hope 2010

This is about two friends I have met

A choice, a decision I don't regret

About a friendship that you can only see in a book

Search open your eyes and look

For someone to be there

For someone you'd love to share

Your life anytime and anywhere.

In a place, one day

I heard someone say:

"A friend gives hope when life is low

A friend is a place when you have nowhere to go"

I couldn't find that friend in this big crowd

I covered my ears cause it was so loud

I searched year after year

Hoping she would be near.

I almost have lost

My believe. That would cost.

I was so upset

But this isn't the end yet

That's the story of my past

But it was worth it at last.

I finally have met someone who can make me laugh

Even after a whole bad day or maybe half

I suddenly loved to go to school

And find the world really cool

You guys made me a better person, a better girl

I owe you so much, even a necklace with a pearl.

After that I still have one wish

I tell you it's not to have a gold fish,

It's to keep this friendship forever

"Even if it's raining more than ever

And when the sun shines, we'll shine together"

Age: 14. 10th Grade, still in the same Arabic country.

As I said before I never felt accepted in the society I was born into. And I had high expectation of friendship that didn't fit in that society. That's why I never really had good friends till Grade 10. One of those two friends was from the neighbor-land and moved to my land on that year.

Because of the political trouble that has started in my land she had t go back. And that's when I wrote this. As a goodbye gift I guess.... I am sad to say that I lost contact with her after that.....

About the other one, I remember her always laughing on the line with the gold fish, no matter how often she read that poem. : )  We are now in two different countries but we still write sometimes. We did drift apart though.....
