Sonadow - King and his slave

Part 21

Sonic and Mephiles were soon riding with their horses towards Eggman's hidingplace. Neither of them spoke much. They both were feeling rather nervous about the situation they were having in their hands. The knights were already heading towards duke Eggman's mansion and they were going to surround the whole area. If Eggman was going to run away they could easily catch him this way.

After riding in silence for a long while already they finally arrived at Eggman's mansion. Sonic and Mephiles got down off their horses a bit further away from the mansion and looked at it.

"I didn't even know there was a mansion here.." Sonic said quietly, breaking the nervous silence between them. Mephiles looked around to see if they were alone before he turned to look at him.

"It's very quiet here.. A bit too quiet in my opinion.." the older thing said. Sonic nodded and right away he started to look around. He knew the knights were all here somewhere, waiting for his signal. On their way here, Sonic and Mephiles had decided that Sonic would be in charge of everything so he would be the one to give signal to attack. And the blue hedgehog carried this duty more like it was a burden to him..

"Maybe we just need to knock at the door or something.." he said and chuckled a bit nervously. Mephiles smiled tiny bit to Sonic. He understood well that the younger king was very nervous at the moment.

"Mh, maybe," Mephiles said rather calmly which only made Sonic feel even more nervous. Sonic chuckled slightly awkwardly and looked around a bit again. Suddenly he saw a glimpse of metallic blue color with the corner of his eye and all of the sudden, out of nowhere, a robot appeared in front of them. Sonic and Mephiles both startled slightly and took a step back as they saw the unknown creature. Both kings were ready to pull their swords out but Metal Sonic stopped them before they could do so. Metal looked at them and pointed at them with swords, one in his both hands. Sonic and Mephiles looked at him with slightly stunned and curious looks in their face. They had never seen anything like this before. This was the first time they saw a robot. The metallic hedgehog pointed towards his master's mansion, wanting Sonic and Mephiles to walk towards the door. The kings looked at each others and then Metal again.

"You want us to go in the mansion?" Sonic asked.

"Is duke Eggman your master...?" Mephiles asked. Metal Sonic nodded slowly as an affirmative answer to both questions. Sonic looked at Mephiles slightly with concerned look on his face. If they went inside the mansion Sonic wouldn't be able to give signal to attack to their knights. Mephiles realized the same as he looked at Sonic and the older king knew right away what to do even though there was a risk of ruining their plans.

"Let's go INSIDE the mansion then," Mephiles said, emphasizing the word 'inside' as secretly, but loud enough for knights to hear, as he just could. Sonic nodded slightly and he looked around slightly. He started to walk towards the mansion with Mephiles and as they looked around they could see a little glimpse of their knights moving closer to the mansion. Sonic and Mephiles looked at each others, now feeling slightly more self-confident. Metal Sonic followed them and sometimes nudged their backs with the tip of his swords, apparently not noticing what was going on around him and the kings.

"What the heck is that thing..?" Sonic whispered really quietly so only Mephiles would hear him.

"I have heard a rumor of Eggman wanting to build creatures of his own but I never knew he actually managed to do so.. I must say I'm impressed.. and worried.." Mephiles whispered back. Sonic looked at Metal Sonic now slightly over his own shoulder. The metallic hedgehog looked a lot like him and it made Sonic feel somehow uneasy. The young king turned to look at Mephiles again.

"What kind of rumor it was..?" he asked with a whisper.

"I heard it many years ago.. I heard that Eggman is gathering different metals and materials so he could try and build metallic creatures called robots.. I thought it was only a rumor but apparently it wasn't.. If duke Eggman created this thing I wonder what else he has managed to do.." Mephiles whispered. Sonic looked back to Metal Sonic again. He was wondering would they meet more robots like this in the mansion..
