Part 9

In the meantime, when queen Amy was looking for Shadow, king Sonic and king Mephiles were seated in library room. Mephiles looked a little worried, but in a dignified way. Sonic looked at his old friend. King Mephiles had helped king Sonic many times, so it was obvious that as soon as Mephiles had asked for help, Sonic had agreed to help. Besides, Sonic respected him very much.

"Now, tell me, my friend, why you look so worried?" Sonic asked. King Mephiles sighed a little and looked at the younger king wearily.

"The thing that worries me is the liberty of my kingdom, Sonic. Have you ever heard about duke Eggman?" Mephiles asked. Sonic nodded and then turned to look at Tails.

"Tails, is he the same duke, who once tried to buy my kingdom from me?" Sonic asked.

"Yes he was, my king," lackey answered. Sonic turned back to look at Mephiles. Mephiles nodded slightly.

"The same duke has been threatening me for a long time. He requires me to give up, because my kingdom will never survive the war against his troops. He says that because my kingdom does not have the heir to the throne, I am forced to hand over my kingdom to him," Mephiles said.

"That bastard! Don't tell me that you are going to hand over your kingdom to him!" Sonic said slightly agitated way. He was both shocked and angry about what he had just heard.

"Of course not! He gets my kingdom only over my dead body," Mephiles shook his head, and his eyes became more definite.

"I am really not going to hand over my kingdom to tyrant like him! He does not even deserve the title of duke. I'm going to fight for my kingdom, and show to him that as long as I am the king, he will not have my kingdom. But I need your help, my friend," Mephiles said and looked at Sonic with his reptilian green eyes. Sonic nodded with a smile.

"Do you maybe have some kind of plan, Mephiles?" he asked.

"Actually, yes I have. Let's combine our powers, you and me and show him that there's two kingdoms which are against him. We can lead our armies to the war and win him. But only if we work together." Sonic crossed his arms and thought about Mephiles' suggestion. He really didn't wanted to start a war, but Mephiles needed his help to win duke Eggman. On the other hand, if they would win the duke, everywhere would be peace and kingdoms could cooperate better. But then.. He would not be able to see Shadow... Sonic felt a little twinge in his heart when he thought about that. They were only a little moment ago confessed their love for each other, and now this. Sonic's leaving would happen too soon. To both of them...

"Are you quite sure that war is the only solution to this situation?" Sonic asked with some hesitation. Mephiles nodded vigorously.

"Yes, it is the only solution, Sonic. I know that in these situations, you are relying conversation and you do not want to use violence, but now talking doesn't help us. If we do nothing, Eggman takes our kingdoms from both of us," Mephiles said. Sonic sighed a little, but nodded. There was no other choice than the war.

"Very well, then. I am ready to help you. Tails, please bring us a map of all kingdoms," Sonic said. Tails nodded and went to search map from library rooms shelves. Sonic noticed how Mephiles looked relieved. Sonic, in the other hand, was not relieved at all. Even if he wanted to help his friend, he already regret that he had agreed to fight against the duke. After a while, Tails walked over to his king, and handed him the map.

"Here is the map, my king," he said. Sonic smiled at him quickly and took the map.

"Thank you Tails," he said, stood up and walked over to a large table with Mephiles. He opened a huge map on the table and began to explore it.
