Dipper P.O.V
"So Dip, where do you go?" Mabel asked.
Her question interrupted my trying to reread my book. I didn't have enough patience to reread anything at the moment, so I decided that I would just put my book away.
"What are you talking about?"
"Every time we finish homework, you just leave. Pacifica's worried that maybe you don't like her or something."
"I don't not like Pacifica. I just like to leave you guys to yourselves. Besides you're interested in things that I'm not, so it works out."
"So what do you do instead?"
"I just read on the window seat...or draw." I shrugged, "She shouldn't worry. I enjoy the time I spend there." I felt a smile creeping at the thoughts of the few times I've hung out with Bill. He's fun to be around.
"Oh, you're so antisocial...." She slugged me in the arm a bit harder than I think she anticipated. I rubbed my arm as I continued to speak.
"I'm plenty social."
"Sure... we're Juniors now and you still haven't had a girlfriend yet, just sayin'...."
"Psh I don't want a girlfriend."
Mabel gasped, "So you want a boyfriend?"
"What?! No, I don't want anything! I-" Occasionally, Mabel tries to play match-maker with me and other boys in my grade or something, and it's immensely annoying. Obviously I'm straight. I don't get why she keeps on insisting other-wise. I stood up and turned off the light and climbed into bed. After some silence, Mabel spoke again.
"I didn't mean to offend you by that. It was a joke, honestly."
"Joking about minorities isn't funny."
" I didn't realize."
"Whatever, it's fine. Just go to sleep."
I tried to do that myself, but I kept thinking about that dumb comment she made. It would actually be in my worst interest to be gay. My parents, they detest the idea. Them and their stupid philosophies... Maybe I just need to get a girlfriend, so that I can be reaffirmed in my heterosexuality. That's stupid though. Besides, I don't know the first thing about asking a girl out, but my peers make it look simple enough. Who would I even ask though? If I were to stoop to that level, the question was who would be the unlucky girl to be asked... My question was interrupted by the buzz of my phone. I sighed and picked it up. It was probably some update thing, my phone goes through way too many updates. The light burned my eyes. Note to self: just keep the brightness all the way low all the time.
When my eyes readjusted, I saw that it was actually a text message.
Hey, what's up? I can't sleep, so let's talk.
It was from Bill. Still, I don't get why he likes me so much. I'm his little sister's friend, kind of.
I guess I'd better respond. It's be rude not to, and it's not like I'm sleeping any better.
D: Just thinking
B: About what?
D: Girls.
D: Uh not in that way, just how I want to maybe ask one out.
B: XD Like just any girl? What do you mean?
Oh my gosh. I already hate this texting thing. I don't have a face there to filter what I say, or to tell me how they took it. Why do people talk this way? It's not that smart.
