"They probably have not removed my handprint from the system yet, so we're depending on that to get into the building. We knew the locations of security points and cameras and were planning on disabling them once we were in. Vanessa and Kyle will be in charge of that." The two of them nodded. We were going through the plan one last time a few blocks away from the building.
"Christopher and Hugh, you guys are going to take care of the equipment. Make sure everything is destroyed." Kyle continued where I left off.
"I'll head to the room where all the paper is and gather as much of them as I can, if not all of them." I finished off.
They all nodded back at me and we all set off in different directions. I pulled my hood further down my head and began to head towards the building as well. As I reached the building, I slowed to a walk and pulled my hood off my head, letting my hair flow free. There were no security standing at the main doors. This should have set warning alarms in my head but I pushed on.
I heard a slight rustle behind me and I glanced backwards to see Vanessa following several feet behind me. She gave me a silent nod before disappearing into the night again without a trace of sound.
I placed my hand on the handle of the door and pushed it open. I stood on the doorway holding the door open. It was completely dark inside. I usually stayed down in the labs this late at night so I wasn't used to seeing this building completely dark. I let my eyes adjust to the darkness as I felt a small gush of wind as the others entered. Christopher walked up towards the door calmly. The two of us were at the building so it would be suspicious if we were acting too quiet.
Once I was sure that everyone was in, I let the door swing close. Vanessa and Hugh were already far ahead of us, staying close to the walls, climbing up and around at times to disable any cameras that were position there. We sprayed their gloves and the souls of their shoes with adhesive spray so they would be able to climb around with ease.
Hugh was right behind them, making sure to avoid being within the range of a camera that is still functioning.
Everything seemed to be going well. But I didn't notice the small signs that things weren't going as well as I thought they were.
As we reached the elevator at the back of the building that lead to the labs. The elevator's bell sounded, shocking all of us, as the doors opened. The brightness from the light in the elevator temporarily blinded my eyes as my heart rate began to quicken and adrenaline pumped through my system.
Were we caught?
The echoing sound of heels clicking against the floor sounded as the person in the elevator walked out of it, stopping a few feet in front of us. I opened my eyes and blinked in rapid succession to get my vision back to normal.
Mrs. Miller stood in front of us, one hand on her hip. "I've been expecting you, Amelia."
I felt my mouth run dry.
"I honestly didn't think you would find out so quickly. But then again, I guess the reason that you did was because of little miss traitor." Just as she said that, the elevator bell ringed again and Dillon walked in dragging a bloodied body of Isabelle.
He tossed her so that she sprawled out at Mrs. Miller's feet. The rise and fall of her chest confirmed that she was still alive, but she was definitely horribly injured and needed to be treated.
"Ungrateful woman. Even after I had saved her, she still went ahead and tattled." Mrs. Miller shook her head and tsked.
The others around me shared the same reaction. Shock. Even though I held a small expectation that Mrs. Miller was behind the experiments, I still didn't want to believe it.
