"What do you mean you saw me fight this morning." I ask again, multiple thoughts running through my head.
"Exactly that." Christopher replied, his face contorting into an expression of confusion.
"Time?" I demanded.
"Around eight am today." Christopher offered, still confused.
"I was doing my virtual training at that time." I mumbled to myself. "This isn't making any sense."
"Amelia! Your opponent is here!" Isabelle called out. I turned to her and nodded before making my way down to the weaponry room.
I felt around my belt to see if I already had any weapons on me. My fingers brushed over the dagger that I kept with me at all times and that was it. I browsed through the rows of weapons and stopped at the stun gun baton that I always used.
Deciding that I wouldn't use it this time, I stepped into the fighting area. My opponent was already there. He was just as big and muscular as my previous opponent. I eyed him carefully as I stretched. He didn't seem to have any weapons on him so he must be extremely powerful with hand-to-hand combat.
As the starting buzzer went off, I stood still for a moment continuing my analysis, even though my muscles tensed and were almost screaming at me to attack.
Before I realized, I had run forward and tried a kick attack only to be blocked. I used the momentum from the block to swing my other leg forward and twisted my body to try another hit at him. He grabbed my leg and threw me onto the wall.
The impact knocked the air out of my chest and as I dropped back onto the floor, my vision turned red again.
The next thing I knew, the ending buzzer had sounded. As the red in my vision disappeared, I realized that I had my opponent on his back and that I was choking him. Stopping myself and getting off immediately, I stumbled backwards in shock.
The sound of my heartbeat resonated in my ears as it sped up with my breathing. I watched through blurry vision of my opponent being helped away by the paramedics and some of them coming to get me. I didn't move. I couldn't move. It was like I was rooted in place.
My vision began to darken as well, and the last thing I saw before I blacked out completely was Christopher running into the room towards me as well.
When I woke up again, I was in the medical room, lying on one of the beds.
"Amelia, you're awake!" Isabelle showed up beside my bed, shooting me a worried smile. I sat up only to get slammed with dizziness as I dropped back down onto my back.
"You've been getting more and more dizzy spells." Isabelle said, worry heavily coated in her tone. I watched her grip on the rail beside my bed tighten.
"I'm fine." I muttered as I placed a hand over my forehead, massaging it slightly trying to elevate the dizziness I still felt.
I let out a heavy sigh before asking, "have you done the scan yet?"
Isabelle shook her head and bit her bottom lip. "I think... I think we'll skip that for today." She got progressively quieter towards the end of her sentence, ending it in an almost silent whisper.
I shot her a confused look and was about to ask for the reason but Mrs. Miller walked in. "Amelia, are you feeling better?" She shot me a smile.
I nodded and removed my hand from my forehead. "Have you completed the second scan yet?" She asked Isabelle. Isabelle hesitated before shaking her head.
Mrs. Miller shot Isabelle a kind, resigned smile and placed a hand on her arm. "Well, let's do it quickly so Amelia can go rest in her room." Isabelle hesitated again before nodding and left to retrieve the machine.
I closed my eyes as the machine ran its scan, the dizziness wasn't fading away in the slightest, and only seemed to have worsened when the machine finished its scan.
I groaned as I forced myself into a sitting position, hands cradling my head.
"Let's get you to bed." Isabelle said softly, wrapping her arms around my shoulders, supporting my weight. I nodded numbly and allowed her to lead me back to my room as I tried not to fall over.
I woke up feeling a lot more refreshed and all remnants of dizziness had disappeared. I stood up and stretched before carrying out my usual daily routine before making my way to the virtual training area.
I passed by Christopher on my way there and pulled him over.
"Hi?" He said, confusion on his face as I dragged him to a corner.
I let go of his arm and turned around to look at him. "If you see me fighting again when I'm doing my virtual training, take a video and show me later." I whispered to him.
He shot me another confused look but nodded.
I shot him a thanks before making my way to where Isabelle stood, waiting for me.
"Are you feeling better?" She asked the moment I approached her.
I nodded, "Much better."
She gave a smile in relief, "That's good. Let's get started on your training then."
The virtual training was the same as last time, although the electrical sensations I had felt at the beginning and the end of the training wasn't as bad as the previous time. I spent the rest of the day resting in my room before the physical training in the evening. I didn't manage to catch Christopher again until after my physical training was over and he had to treat any injuries I had.
As he walked over to me, he pulled out his phone and handed it to me with a video on its screen. As I watched it, the gears in my mind began to turn, trying to piece the puzzle pieces together.
Nothing made sense.
In the video that Christopher showed me, it was me fighting the same opponent I had been fighting in my virtual training. I furrowed my eyebrows together. How could this be happening. Was something wrong with me? Or is something going on that no one is telling me...
Isabelle walked in with the scanning machine and I handed Christopher's phone back to him. As she set the machine up, I asked, "What's going on with the virtual training?"
My question seemed to have startled Isabelle as she jerked upwards and stopped working. She stayed silent for a moment, as if contemplating my question, before she continued to work at a slower rate.
"What do you mean?"
I laid down so that she could do the scan. "Christopher said he saw me fighting when I was doing my virtual training. How is that possible?"
Isabelle bit down on her lower lip as she completed the scan. "We didn't have a way to analyze your fighting style when you were in your virtual training. So we managed to find a way to project your virtual training into the room where your fights usually takes place..."
Isabelle trailed off towards the end as one of her assistants walked in with a tray that held one cup. She took it and stared at the cup, her eyebrows were furrowed as if she was in deep thought.
"Isabelle?" I prompted.
She looked at me before looking back down at the cup. She picked the cup up from the tray and handed it to me. I downed the liquid in the cup in one go. I always assumed that it was water in the cup but it always had a soothing effect to it. It also pushed away any feelings of nausea and dizziness.
As I handed the cup back to Isabelle, she gave me a small smile before walking away with the cup and the tray.
As I watched her leave, a nagging feeling emerged from the darkest part of my mind.
