Sasha's POV
"Mija! There you are! We were all was wondering where did you disappear to?" Father said with a bright smile on his face as he found me in at the hallway of the second level of our guesthouse. I was praying that I had salvaged the remaining makeup that I was left on my face.
As much as my Father is extremely observant, he didn't notice my puffy red eyes or my slouched posture. "I came to my room Acha. I just needed some alone time. There were just too many people downstairs" I explained smoothly. If I had stuttered, my Father would have noticed and would have caught my lie. I did learn from past mistakes of getting caught.
"Alright princess. You need to come down now. It's time to address the crowd as a family. Come on!" my Father said as he grabbed my wrist, dragging me toward the stairs to the large living area.
My brother handed me a flute of bubbly as I stood next to him, with a plastered smile I thanked him. Both my brothers shared a concerned look as they noticed my red rimmed eyes. I knew that I wouldn't be able to mask my emotions from my brothers. They stared at each other and I knew they were having a conversation telepathically.
Abruptly, the older twin grabbed my upper arm, pulling me to stand in between them, it's their form of protection, like a shield from any threats. They have been doing that ever since we were in primary school. Though they are 2 ½ years younger than me, they have always guarded me. That doesn't mean they wouldn't fight with me or bully me, we still have normal sibling disputes but we are always there for each other. We don't want to be like my father and his siblings. We learnt from their mistake and vowed, at the tender age of 10 and 8, to always back each other up.
"Good evening everyone!" Father's voice boomed across the living room, with a confident smile he looked around. Everyone's chattering came to a low and soon it was absolutely quiet, giving my Father full attention and respect.
"Thank you everyone, for coming and joining us on this happy occasion. As everyone knows my daughter, Sasha, has finished her degree. She's the first one in our family and I'm proud to say she's my daughter. To make me even more proud, she will be officially taking the family business to the next level. Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing our new CEO of Nayyar's Trading's!" my Father announced with so much happiness and pride. The crowd cheered and clapped, and suddenly I couldn't breathe. Tears started to well in my eyes, I felt absolutely blindsided.
My Father just threw my dreams out of the window. It's gone without any trace. Every possibility of me parting my knowledge to the next generation is gone. As much as I wanted to stomp my feet and throw a fit, I remained poised and elegant with the sweetest fake smile creeping on my lips. A traitorous tear slipped out but I quickly wiped it away before anyone saw. My mother gave me an apologetic smile as she knew the reason behind my tear. I felt another pair of eyes burning holes into my head.
From my peripheral view, I saw him. His eyes showed concern, which I couldn't understand the reason. As he knew he got my attention, he mouthed a simple sorry as he used his index trailing from under his eye downwards of his cheek. He saw the tear that escaped. I just couldn't look at him any longer, knowing that his observation of my small act is going to let my dam loose.
I took calming breaths and stood closer to my twin brothers. Seeing my sudden movement towards them, the youngest twin, Kayden, decided it was time to head home as the older twin, Jayden, agree and took the car keys from my purse as he closed it and passed it to me.
