(Sasha's POV)

"What the hell are you talking about Kia?" the old nickname slipped, LeRoy widened his eyes but I kept my eyes on him.

"What I just said. I've no idea what my father did but Landen had warned my parents that even if I'm married to him, I'm not safe with him. Apparently, if I become a burden or a hindrance to the gang, I'm dead." I yelled hysterically as I walked into the office with three of them in tow.

"That doesn't make sense. Then why marry you in the first place?" Nate asked hesitantly.

I shrugged my shoulders, trying to digest the conversation I had with my mother. LeRoy pulled me to a seat and wiped my cheeks making me realise the tears that had been rolling down.

"Kia. Calm down. Drink this and tell me what your mother said." LeRoy cooed as he handed me a tall glass of water.

Flashback to couple of hours

"Ma!! Where are you?" I hollered as I entered the house I used to call my home.

"We should tell her, José. She deserves to know." My mom, Kavitha, spat venomously.

"I know I know. I just need a bit more time. If I could pay them off, she can marry Landen and be protected." My Father pleaded.

"Who do you need to pay? Why can't Landen keep her safe? What's going on?" My Mother shouted.

I couldn't stay still at the threshold of the living room. I walked into my parents' heated argument, "yeah Father, what's going on?" I asked.

"You don't need to know. I'm dealing with it. All you have to do is marry Landen. Do you understand?" My Father gritted out. Which I only nodded my head, fear evident in my eyes. My Father looked crazy and on the verge of mental breakdown. His eyes were bloodshot and about to pop out of its socket.

"Kavitha. I'm going out. Will be back late" and he left before my mother could reply. I have never seen my Father like this. It was all too new and different. The man who was sweet and always making all of us laugh wasn't there. The man who would answer all my questions with no interruptions wasn't there. The man I called my Father wasn't there. Only a crazy mafia boss was standing before me.

All I did was stand frozen as the tears flowed down my cheeks. The slamming of the front door thrusting me out of my frozen state.

"Sasha. I'm so sorry you had to witness that. Your father is just a little stress. That's all," my mother defended as she wiped her tears strained cheeks.

I stared at my mother in disbelief. Did she really say that? Little stress? Obviously, there's more to the story, I just need to know what my parents are hiding from me.

"Ma are you going stick to that story? Really?" I asked humourlessly.

My mother sighed, sitting on the long brown crouch in the living room. "I really don't know what to tell you Sasha. I, myself, have no idea what going on. Your father made a huge blunder."
