Going to New York was the holiday I didn't know that I needed, it was like a breath of fresh air. I was excited to see Wilmer. I know there wasn't meant to be any feelings attached, but I couldn't help it. I could only hope that he felt the same way.
Walking to my first class with Wilmer, I held a small smirk on my face until I saw Jeremy walking towards me. My stomach dropped as I looked around for somewhere that I could run to.
"Demi, can we talk?" He asked as I stood there frozen, "I'm really sorry about what happened the other night, I don't know what happened"
I shook my head, "I'm going to be late"
"We're in the same class, I'll tell him it was my fault"
"Jeremy, please just leave me alone" I muttered, my voice small as he looked down at me. He placed his hand along the side of my face as he brought himself closer, "Stop" I warned as he pressed his lips against mine. I instantly pulled away, pushing him away as tears welled in my eyes,
"You're my girlfriend, stop acting like this!" Jeremy snapped in a whisper as people were beginning to look at us.
I looked down as a single tear escaped my eye, "What's going on here?" An all too familiar voice said sternly as Jeremy backed away from me and I composed myself,
Jeremy shrugged, "My girlfriends dog died this morning, she's just a bit upset is all" He lied, running his hand through his hair nervously.
Wilmer narrowed his eyes at me as I shook my head slightly, "I don't have a dog"
"Not anymore"
"Not ever, own up to the fucked up shit you've done Jeremy and leave me alone" I told him, shoving past before walking into the classroom just behind Wilmer. Watching from a distance, Wilmer glared at Jeremy for a moment before following me into the room where the class was already filling up.
I made my way to a different seat to my usual one, my normal one being next to Jeremy, I sat at the front today. Wilmer didn't look at me all lesson, and when he did it was just a thoughtless glance. I began to wonder if he was just acting to not raise suspicion or if I had done something wrong. Knowing me, I had probably done something wrong.
"Lovato!" Wilmer snapped, bringing me out of my thoughts as my head snapped up to meet his gaze. "This isn't day dreaming class" He said cockily as the people around me snickered. Really, this petty bullshit again?
I couldn't help the tears that surfaced to my eyes. Do not cry, do not cry; I told myself. "Class dismissed" Wilmer announced, I couldn't wait to get out of the room. Running straight to the bathroom, I let the tears that I had been holding in fall down my cheeks.I took a square of paper towel and wiped my tears as the constantly ran down my cheeks. I sat in the bathroom stall because I didn't want anyone to see me. After crying for my whole 30 minute break, I had gotten a headache. Going into my book bag, I grabbed an ibuprofen from the corner pocket. When I got out of the stall I went to the sink and took the pill washing it down with the cold water I cupped into my hands.
Walking out of the bathroom, I saw Wilmer standing on the other side of the hallway just looking at me. A feeling of relief came over me as I walked over to the man, "Hey" I smiled, he didn't respond. "What have I done wrong?" I sighed, something was obviously up with him.
Wilmer looked to the floor as he clenched his jaw, "What we did was a mistake and this can't continue. Your course is paid for now, I went to the finance office this morning. Your rent for the next six months has been paid, this should give you time to find a decent normal job" He explained to me, still looking down at the floor.
"You can't even look at me while saying that" I narrowed my eyes as a lump formed in my throat,
Wilmer looked up at me, his eyes glassy as he looked my in the eye, "It's over, Demi"
I shook my head as a lone tear fell down my face. Out of hurt and anger, I shoved him against the wall when he reached out to try and comfort me. "I'll see you in class, professor" I mumbled before walking away. Luckily the next lot of classes had just begun so no students were in the hallways as it happened.
..
I took the remainder of the day off. I notified my other teachers and quickly handed in any assignments that I had due before heading to my car and driving home. Upon getting home, I flopped onto the bed and fell asleep, or at least tried to. The constant vibrating of my phone next to my head didn't help in that department, or any department actually.
Groaning in frustration, I grabbed my phone to see 7 missed calls from Wilmer, and 3 from Jeremy. What didn't Jeremy understand? I didn't want to talk to him. In his defence though, I hadn't exactly officially broken up with him yet.
I opened iMessage and clicked on Jeremy's contact. 'It's over, stop trying to contact me or I'll block your number' I sent, throwing my phone across my bed as another call from Wilmer popped up.
..
I opened my eyes, confused and dazed as it was now dark. I hoped I would have just slept through the night, but of course I had to wake up. I hated naps, they always made me feel icky after. Groaning and stretching out my legs, I rolled out of the large bed.
My mouth was feeling so dry so I grabbed a glass from the cabinet once I reached my kitchen before filling it with the cold jug of water that I kept in the fridge.A knock at the door startled me, quietly placing the glass on the kitchen bench, I made my way over to the front door. I hadn't bothered looking at the clock yet, but I knew it must have been late so I looked through the peep hole. Looking right back at me was a blonde Jeremy. I screwed up my face at how creepy it was that he was at my house before turning around.
"Come on Demi, I can see that your lights are on, and I can see your shadow under the door" Jeremy begged from the other side of the door. I glanced over to the clock, '2:43am' it read. Softly, I tip toed over to the light switch and turned the lights off. Ignoring the mans plead, I turned around with my glass of water and made my way back into my bedroom.
What a creep.
