Chapter 18: Human warning

Felling oddly refreshed I left the cove, leaving a sleeping Damien blissfully unaware of my absence. I walked for many minutes, just wondering through the trees. After a while, I discovered a river and rocks. The river was calm and looked tempting. I strolled towards it. Stripping off slowly and leaving my clothes on one of the rocks, I waded far out into the river and just stayed there.

Closing my eyes, I allowed the water to wash away my negative thoughts and emotions, I opened up my mind temporarily freeing it. I waded out a little further and started swimming, the current wasn't really strong but enough to keep my limbs going.

I stayed like that for ages floating and swimming, free and calm. A voice broke the silence, "Lizzie, oh god, there you are." I turned around to see Damien at the waters edge looking relieved. I swam over to the edge and despite the lack of clothing, I left the cool of the water and walked up onto the mini beach.

I was zoned out still and subconsciously walked over to grab my clothes. I couldn't find the and panicked slightly. "These what your looking for?" Damien smirked. I turned around and he immediately stopped smirking and held my clothes out to me. I took them and stared into his eyes as I got dressed.

I walked past as he stared at me in amusement. I looked behind and he was still stood there shocked and smiling, Then he came back to the here and now and walked swiftly after me.

I reached the cove and searched for a change of clothes. "Do I ave anything else to wear?" I asked Damien who was still amused at me.

"Yeah, it your bag you had with you." He got up and searched for it. "Here."

"Cheers... What are you so amused at?" I asked, rummaging through my bag.

"Amused? Me? Nothing I don't know what you mean!" I rolled my eyes at him whilst selecting and outfit. I turned my back to him and took my partly soaked top off. It got slightly stuck as I took it over my head. "Need a little help?" I didn't reply.

I suddenly felt his unexpected touch on my arms as he pulled me towards him. He turned me around and carefully lifted the shirt from my body. He held it in his hand as he looked into my eyes. Tucking my hair behind my ears, he stared into my eyes. He dropped my shirt to the floor, My heart beat was quickening and his too. A slight blush would've been present on my cheeks and he noticed. I placed my hand on his heart and it was beating wildly, I took my hand away slowly.

I looked down suddenly realising I was semi naked. I turned away and he did too allowing me space. I carried on changing as he sat on the cove floor reading. I sat down next to him and looked through my bag to see what else there was.

That night sleep came to me easily and when I awoke Damien had gone. I got up to go hunting and for a walk. As I strolled around I thought about what had happened the night before. He clearly had feelings for me but that was something I had to just accept.

I found the river again, selecting an appropriate rock, I dangled my feet into the river as the water flowed past silently. I was calm and let my thoughts flow away.

Noticing Damien watching from the other rocks I smiled focusing back on the water. Smiling at him, I slipped off from the rock and into the water, gasping slightly at the shock of the water. I swam underwater for a little while then popped up down stream somewhere and treaded the water. Damien was looking for me, slightly concerned but once he spotted me he laughed.

I allowed myslef to go under the water but the second I arose from the depths, everything hit me at once. Was I falling for Damien? No, of course not, I mean, I can't, can I?

I swam towards to shore and Damien hoisted me out of the water. Pulling me into a hug I cautiously rested my head on his toned chest.  I pulled back and he looked at me, something flickered in his eye, what was that? A gleam of resentment, worry, love?

I turned away and walked back into the trees, him following after me. I reached the cove and stood outside of it watching Damien walking. I had no idea why I did that but watching him walk interested me. I looked to the floor smiling slightly then disappeared into the cove and sat down, once again looking for a change of clothes.

"Is it possible to leave the forest at all to go into the shops?"

"What could you possibly need from the shops?" I held up my bag and clothes. "Ah, well, I suppose at night you could but you'd have to time it properly and they could be out there." I nodded.

"Its possible though right, I have money, lots of money, I could buy things for the clan too, show them my appreciation, I mean I am stealing you from them a lot."

"No, of course your not stealing me, they understand, I have to be here, make sure your alright but I guess it could work." He seemed to plan it in his head and smiled then left the cove. I shrugged then began getting changed.

Coast clear, we set off from the forest, looking as normal as possible, we strolled into town looking like the average hikers. We found a respectable woman's shop and I bought three outfits and loads of other clothes for the women of the clan. We bought resources to make weapons, camping things and gifts. Once we had finished, we quickly hunted in town then left for the forest.

"Excuse me?" An old man who spoke English approached us.

"Yeah." I replied politely.

"Your not going into the forest are you?"He asked cautiously.

"Yes I think we are, why?" Damien asked.

"Oh dear, that's, that's not good at all. You should avoid going anywhere near the forest." Seeing our confused expressions. "Haven't you heard? Legend has it that there are creatures in there, creatures beyond any fairy tale." Leaning closer. "Vampires... Killing, mass killing sometimes, people go in there and never come back out. Bones found near the entrance to the forest."

"Oh wow! Really? Gosh, we must avoid there then. Thank you for telling us." The man nodded then after glancing behind him hurried away. We watched after him then carried on to the forest. Back at the cove we sorted out our newly purchased items. I would present them to the clan when I was ready.
