Chapter 5

It has been a few weeks since Luke's surgery. I am sure he has healed and was doing his own thing now. Not a day goes by that I think of him. I'm being honest, I do miss him. I should have listened to Hannah back in college. LeClaire even thought we loved each other. I was currently treating a little boy who had strep. It was Tuesday so I was back in the childen's clinic. I was thinking about quitting working in the emergency room though. It's unneccesary even though I love being a nurse. I guess I love working with children more.

"Give him penicillin for about two weeks and he should be better by then. If not, come back in and we will give him a stronger antibiotic." I explained to his mom.

"Okay, thank you." She replied. I smiled. "You're welcome." I told her before walking out of the room.

I walked over to the desk and started filling his prescription. "You got a dozen roses." Hannah came over holding a bouquet of red roses. I gave her a weird look. "There's a note attached. I didn't read as it is not my busniess." Hannah shrugged, handing me the flowers. I stopped what I was doing and opened the little note.

Hey, Lilly. Since you work in the emergency room I knew where to send this. Hopefully it gets to you. I just want to thank you for helping me through my injury and such. give me a call sometime... It would be nice to catch up not being in a hospital or at a concert. - Luke (XXX-XXX-XXXX)

I smiled while reading the note. "Who is it from?" Hannah asked. "Luke." I answered, looking up at her. She had a smirk on her face. "Now's your chance." Hannah responded. "He has two kids and is divorced. I doubt he is ready for any relationship. I know I wasn't back in college when I was crushing on Luke." I said with a frown.

"Hunter was a jerk to you. You know that and I know that. Luke is completely different." Hannah told me.

I used to date Hunter back in college before I met Luke. Hunter used to be so sweet and completley loving but something changed. He hung out with the wrong people I guess, and he loved to party. Then the relationship changed and he was starting to get abusive. That's when I left. I haven't dated since. My mom and my step dad, who i consider my real dad anyway, never knew about Hunter which I am glad.

"is that why you never told Luke?" Hannah asked. I nodded slowly.

Hannah sighed. "I don't wanna talk about it. I'm going to work right now." I changed the subject before grabbing the prescription for the little boy and walked into the exam room.

I was currently at home thinking whether or not I should call Luke. I just quit my position in the emergency room as I loved working in the children's clinic more. I slowly picked up my phone before dialing Luke's number. It rang for a few minutes before someone answered.

"Hello?" Luke answered.

"Hey Luke, it's Lilly." I responded.

"Oh hey, Lilly pad. I assume you got my flowers." Luke said calling me by the nick name he gave me in college. I smiled.

"Yes I did. The flowers are beautiful." I said.

"I have a few days off this upcoming week. Want to have lunch one of those days?"

"That sounds great, I call in Friday and say I can't come in?" I asked.

"That's good. The boys will be at their mama's so that works out great." Luke answered.

"Your sons are adorable. Bo looks just like you." I told him. I heard Luke chuckle.

"They are both a mess. With the divorce, they didn't change or anything. They are the same happy kids. Bo loves his mama and I am sure he misses us being together but I don't know what goes through that mind of his." Luke spoke.

"He is adorable either way. So, how is your arm doing?" I asked.

"It's doing okay. Feels like I never had surgery."

"That's great!" I then heard shuffling going on in the background.

"Sorry to cut it short, but I gotta go. I see you next Friday then?" Luke said.

"Sounds like a plan. Bye, Luke."

"Bye, Lilly pad."
