"Hey Alex, how is it going?" I ask my sister's best friend as I open the door. I look closely at her ocean blue eyes and I see them start to expand. I notice it but I don't overthink it. She quickly looks down at her battered black converse shoes for a moment, then looks back up flipping her flowing orange hair out of her eyes.
"It, uh, it's going good Tyler, how about you?" She asks back politely, in a soft, caring tone. I open my mouth to respond when my sister cuts me off, walking around the corner towards the door. I turn when I hear her footsteps.
"Alex is here, Anna." I say to my twin sister.
"I see that, also why are you talking to her, I told you not to talk to my friends." My sister snaps the question at me.
"You talk to my friends whom I've told you not to talk to, also I opened the door and asked her how she was doing, calm down." I fire back at my sister in a quiet voice. I turn, "Please come in." I say to Alex, as I step aside and make an exaggerated gesture with my arm. She looks at me and laughs so I laugh back.
"Alex, I'll meet you in my room, head on up." Anna says to Alex looking me in the eyes.
"Okay, bye Tyler see you later." Alex says to me and she waves and winks as she walks up the stairs but I ignore it.
"Okay, what the hell is going on between you two? You are way to shy to do that shit in front of people." My sister asks me angrily, as soon as Alex leaves earshot. She gives me an angry stare forcing me to tell her the truth.
"Nothing, I just." I pause looking for the right word. "I like her, a lot." I say back quietly and shyly. My sisters eyes widen in surprise. She stands in front of me speechless for a moment and then she moves her arm onto my shoulder. I flinch expecting a slap. My sister looks into my eyes and opens her mouth.
"Do you want me to help Tyler?" I stand shocked at the question. I take a moment awaiting her to burst out in laughter as if she was joking. She doesn't. She stares at me sincerely for the first time in years.
"If you want to help I'd appreciate that a lot, thanks Anna." I say after I realize she isn't joking. Then she puts a sick look on her face.
"If you try and get me in with Danny." The words enter my ears and sting. I stand contemplating whether or not I should take the deal.
"Deal, but I'm not making any promises." I say the words as I let out a sigh.
"Thanks so much Tyler!" She grabs me and gives me a big hug, letting me know she is happy. I hug back after taking a moment to register what just happened.
"No problem Anna, no problem at all."
