Ding Dong

He rang the doorbell praying in his mind for Ishita to open the door.

Cluck opened the door and to his dismay, Mihika stood in front of him.

Mihika wasn't surprised at all. Looked like she was expecting him, rather she was surprised that what took him so long.

Unsure if he would be welcomed in by the current owner of the house, he turned around to leave.

"Akka kamre me hain" Mihika hurriedly said taking him completely by surprise.

He turned back at her to make sure if what he assumed from her words was right. She flashed a weak smile at him and stepped aside inviting him inside. He smiled gratefully, removed his sneakers, left them outside the door and stepped in. Mihika pointed towards the room which accommodated his lady love and lady luck.

Preparing himself mentally to face her, gathering some courage, building up his confidence, he took measured steps towards the room.

Ishita was standing near the huge window, staring into oblivion with her arms folded across her chest. Her face had lost its colour and eyes had lost its glint. Her look now reminded Raman of the initial days post her accident when she carried a similar paled out face and blank eyes. He was afraid if he had pushed her back to that phase of darkness which he dreaded the most.

"Paapppaaaa" squealed Ruhi on seeing her favourite person after one longggggg day. She ditched her toys and crawled on the soft mattress hastily to reach her father.

Raman turned her attention towards his little princess "Ale mela bachha" came his signature remark in a wobbly tone, the pain of missing her clearly being expressed. Ruhi was ecstatic when she heard her favourite compliment from her favourite person and she jumped into his arms. "Papa missed you a lot my bachha" he said kissing her all over her face.

Ruhi's squeal had brought Ishita back from the state of oblivion. Quite unexpected to her, the word 'Paappaa' had surged a wave of excitement within her and her eyes had impatiently roved around the room to find him, as if she had been waiting for his arrival. Her heart fluttered as she caught a glimpse of him and she felt at ease. In that moment she realised that her relationship with him had changed, rather ended, but her feelings for him hadn't.

'Itna karo naa usse pyar' she reprimanded herself.

She wanted to turn her gaze away but the sight in front of her left her staring at it in awe. She was witnessing the most beautiful bond ever, the reunion of a father and daughter.

'Father and daughter! Oh yeah!' She sarcastically chuckled inwardly. Ruhi was lucky, she was related to him. But what about her? She wasn't related to him in any way, they were just two strangers who had come together to give birth to this beautiful bond she was witnessing right in front of her eyes.

The thought made her cringe snatching away the peace his arrival had brought to her. Restless, feeling filthy and unwanted, she sauntered past him.

Raman transferred Ruhi to one of his arms and freeing the other one, he held Ishita's wrist stopping her from leaving.

His touch froze her and she turned around to face him. Their eyes met and locked letting the other to read the emotions in it. Her eyes were filled with pain while his depicted guilt. Looking beyond the guilt in his eyes, she could clearly read the immense love he had for her. Afraid he might read the same emotion for him in her eyes, she immediately turned her gaze away and struggled to free her wrist from his hold.

"Ishita" he addressed her pouring out all the affection he had for her.

"Let me go Raman" she cried.
