No one said it was going to be easy
"Goddammit - OUCH!" I screamed in frustration for the fifth time this morning. "Everything okay, Emilia?" My mum shouted from downstairs.
"Yeah, I'm fine mum!" I shouted back and then looked back at myself in the mirror with a grimace. "Jesus Christ, this is going to take forever." I mumbled, attempting to add a final coat of mascara without painfully killing myself.
"Finally," I sighed in relief, a few minutes later, and looked at myself in satisfaction.
"EM, IF YOU DON'T LEAVE NOW YOU'RE GONNA BE LATE!" My mom screeched once again, giving me a fright.
"GEEZ WOMAN, CALM YOURSELF. I'M COMING!" I screamed back at her.
My room door swung open, my mum standing in the door frame in her work clothes, clicking her heels. "Is that how you speak to your mother young lady?" She asked with a mock stern tone.
I stuck my tongue out at her and bent to grab my bag, giving myself one last looking the mirror. When I turned around my mum was wiping tears from her face. I rolled my eyes. "Really, mom," I groaned. "I thought we established the fact that we weren't going to cry for this?"
My mum grabbed a tissue and 'not so subtly' blew her nose, causing me to giggle. I pulled her into a hug. "I'm gonna miss you." I said, trying to keep my emotions in bay.
"Yeah, yeah. Now go get your butt downstairs before you get late. Are all the boxes moved to your dorm already?" My mother asked. I nodded. "Did that last week, see, I AM an organized person."
My mum shook her head at me. "Alright, alright. Now, go!"
I gave her a kiss on the cheek and ran downstairs and out the door before stopping and groaning in realization. "Makeup," I grumbled. "It's always the makeup."
As I threw my bags on the porch, I ran to my bedroom, my Mum stopping me on the way.
"Sweetheart, what happened?" A tear fell down her cheek.
"Mum, don't cry, I don't wanna have a sad moment.I left my makeup bag upstairs." I yelled, sprinting up the long, white marble staircase, holding onto the railing to keep my balance.
"Don't forget your phone, I will call, I don't want to worry." She said.
"Got my makeup bag, Mum, I'm going to college, not a death trap. I'll be fine. I'll have classes, and won't be allowed to use my phone, unless you want the teachers to take it away for two weeks.Plus, Ava is coming with me." I reassured her. Ava was my best friend.
"I won't call you nonstop, don't worry. Keep your phone on silent in school, turn it to full volume when you get home, we talk on skype twice a week. If you don't answer, Ava will. Remember, no boys in your room, Ava better stay your dorm mate, only 'cos I know that nothing will happen to you two if you're together. I'll text her and ask her for the same. I don't want anything bad to happen to you." My mum rambled and I rolled my eyes at her with a chuckle.
"Mum, I'm in college, I can do what I want," I said, grabbing my bag from the porch and looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Not when I'm the one who's paying for the college that you're attending." She said, seriously. I rolled my eyes- wow, I do that a lot - and gave her one final kiss on the cheek.
"Mum, I don't want to fight. I love you, I need to go. Bye. Take care!" I waved and blew her a kiss before hopping in the taxi and leaving.
