 Reyna

Reyna was exhausted.

She hadn’t eaten in…how many days? She couldn’t remember. And she was so, so thirsty. Exhaustion made her head pound and hunger made her stomach convulse. Her throat was as dry as sandpaper.

But that wasn’t even the worst of it.

 They were lost.

Nico had (after a lot of cursing and other stuff) managed to shadow travel the Athena Parthenos, Reyna and Coach Hedge of the enchanted island and onto some beach in some unknown country.

They had crashed into the sand dunes, spraying clods everywhere. Reyna had practically inhaled half of the beach, which by the way, wasn’t the most pleasant experience in her life.

She spat the sand from her mouth. “Ugh…” She groaned.

Nico literally crawled next to her. His dark eyes were dull with exhaustion. “Reyna.” He coughed. “We—" His eyes drooped and he started snoring.

A few metres away, Coach whooped, dancing around on his cloven hoofs. “That was fun! Can we go again?”

Reyna closed her eyes briefly and nearly nodded off, but the realization of not knowing anything about their surroundings worried her, so she opened her eyes and sat up surveying the scene around her.

They were on a beach-that she was sure of-the sea lapping quietly at the sand dunes, the water a mere metre away. Rocks were piled on their right, like a natural barrier.

To their left, if Reyna squinted, she could make out small multi-coloured shapes that she assumed were people sunbathing, walking around and swimming.

 And eating. Reyna’s stomach rumbled.

Coach Hedge was obviously thinking the same thing. He sniffed the air with disdain. “Hot dogs.” He muttered. “No broccoli. Or anything for satyrs.”

Reyna wasn’t really listening. Her gut demanded attention…and food.

She knelt next to Nico and shook his shoulder roughly. “Get up.” She snapped. He continued to snore.

“We’ve got food.” Reyna coaxed him.

Immediately, Nico bolted up, rubbing his eyes. “Wha-what?”

Reyna resisted the urge to smile. “Come on, Death Boy. Let’s get some food.”

It turned out that they really didn’t need to walk that far. There was a highway cutting through parts of the beach (which they miraculously managed to cross) , and beyond that was an ocean boulevard filled with slowly withdrawing crowds of tourists.
