Reyna

Reyna had experienced a lot of things disappearing. In New Rome, various amounts of denarii and food had gone missing frequently, probably due to the fauns. However, it was beyond Reyna’s understanding how a gigantic statue of a scary goddess just simply disappeared.

Anger swelled in Reyna’s chest, followed shortly by despair and panic. It wasn’t fair! They had dragged the Athena Parthenos all the way from Greece and fought entire hordes of monsters, only for it to vanish.

And, oh gods, what about Annabeth? From what Reyna had heard, the daughter of Athena had gone through both mental and physical torture to get that statue. If she heard that it was gone…

Reyna turned to Coach Hedge. “Where. Is. It?” She growled, trying to convince herself that it wasn’t gone; she must be hallucinating or something.

The faun had been picking at his cudgel. He looked up and cleared his throat, seemingly nervous. “Um, well.” He cleared his throat again. “It sank. Like, in the ground.”

Reyna’s mouth dropped open. “Excuse me?”

Thalia narrowed her eyes at Coach and then at Reyna. “What in Tartarus is going on with you guys?”

Suddenly the ground began to tremble slightly, and just a few metres in front of Reyna, the soil began to boil.

Thalia drew her bow and arrow, aiming it at the mud soup. “Could anyone inform me of what is happening?” She snarled, her electric eyes fixed on the ground.

Reyna was unable to answer. She was too busy staring at the soil in front of her, where two shapes were steadily rising.

One of the shapes Reyna immediately identified as the Athena Parthenos and the other was definitely a man.

Somehow, they weren’t coated in mud. How that was possible, Reyna didn’t know.

A voice in the back of her head whispered: But you do know, don’t you? You can feel it.

After a pause, Reyna thought, Gaia.

Thalia pointed her arrow at the man standing next to the statue. “Who are you?”

The guy was good-looking in a David Beckham kind of way, if that made sense. His eyes were a soft brown and were framed with small crinkles round the edges. His brown hair was sleeked back a little but a part of it hung in front of his eyes. He had a small amount of facial hair-mostly stubble, actually, but it didn’t look horrible on him. He had the, I haven’t shaved in around five months and I still look sexy look, basically. He wore a simple white tunic with a sword attached to his belt.

The man brushed the strand of hair away from his eyes and opened his mouth to reply, a small smirk on his face.

But before he could speak, Coach Hedge got over his initial shock and charged at the man, screaming, “DIE!”
